Debut Print Book: Under the Same Sky by Genevieve Graham
I’ve had some concerns by readers who are primarily print readers that the coverage at Dear Author has been too focused on ebooks. When I asked the readers what they were interested in seeing, they responded that they would like to know more about print debut authors. We developed a little questionnaire and every Wednesday at 10:00 AM CST (as long as we have content) we’ll post the questionnaire answers along with links to the author’s site and a buy link to her book. I hope this helps people discovery new books. Now, on to the answers.
Name of debut release: Under the Same Sky
Release date: 01/03/2012
Publisher: Berkley Sensation
2 sentence summary: Maggie and Andrew know each other as well as they know themselves, yet they have never met—except through dreams which can rescue them from danger. When that is no longer enough, Andrew will have to brave the Atlantic to find her, traveling from Scotland to the colonies, guided by nothing but dreams.
Genre: Historical Romance
Characters: Maggie Johnson, Andrew MacDonnell
What makes this story different: The couple know each other their entire lives, though they have only ever met through dreams. Their “gifts” allow them to rescue each other from battles and violent situations, but he must travel across the sea to get to her when dreams aren’t powerful enough. With all the obstacles shoved in their paths, it seems impossible that they will ever touch (but of course there’s a HEA).
Is this a series?: Book #1, but these are “companion” or “stand alone” novels as well.
Why you wrote this book: I had read the “Outlander” series probably four times (and listened to it three more times) and missed the adventures when I was all done. I decided to see if I could write some of my own.
Why is this your first published book? How many did you write before? This is the first book I’ve ever written. The first any-kind-of-writing, actually.
What’s your writing process? I’m a pantser. I basically stare at the computer and wait … and the characters tell me what to write. Actually, I kind of think of myself as either a story medium or just the typist.
Your next published book. “Sound of the Heart” will be out May 1. It is a companion novel to “Under the Same Sky”.
The last book you read that you loved. I’m loving “The Black Hawk” by Joanna Bourne. I love everything she writes and I envy her neat, quick, funny yet dark style.
The last book you read for research. “Through So Many Dangers: The Memoirs and Adventures of Robert Kirk.”
The romance book character you most identify with. Elizabeth Bennett.
