USA Today Besteller List, Week Ending June 17, 2007

USA LOGO

There’s not much I can say about the list this week. It’s the standard authors here: Roberts, Coulter, Robards, Lindsey. These ladies are bestsellers and will continue to bestsellers, maybe even long after they are gone (cough, VC Andrews, cough). The big surprise, although some may have seen it coming, was the rapid drop off for Mary Janice Davidson’s book, Undead and Uneasy (Queen Betsy, Book 6) which fell from 61 to out of the list in one week’s span.

***

Angels Fall, Nora Roberts, (Jove), $7.99, No. 9 (Peak 1 – as a hardcover release). Paperback release.

Vanished, Karen Robards (Signet) $7.99, No. 31 (Peak 27). This is the paperback release of the hardcover.

Sins of a Duke, Suzanne Enoch (Avon), $6.99, No. 103 (Peak 40).

Changeling, Yasmine Galenorn (Berkley), $6.99, No. 116 (Peak 73). Last week I thought about buying this book and then I read the reviews at Amazon and decided I don’t really enjoy witch stories.
Susannah’s Garden, Debbie Macomber (Mira), $7.99, No. 123 (Peak No. 4 ).

Out of the list:

Undead and Uneasy (Queen Betsy, Book 6), MaryJanice Davidson (Berkley), $23.95, No. 61 (debut). My guess is that people are tired of the 100 page hardcover.
Immortals: The Darkening (Book 2), Robin T. Popp (Dorchester), $6.99, No. 105 (Peak 89).
Gideon: The Nightwalkers, Jacquelyn Frank (Zebra) $6.99, No. 108 (Peak 55).

The Viscount in Her Bedroom (Sisters of Willow Pond Trilogy), Gayle Callen (Avon), $6.99, No. 115 (Peak 88).

Re: MJD – or readers have just decided to stop buying their own copy and are hitting the library instead. We currently have a fairly respectable holds list of 18 waiting on Undead And Uneasy. Not in the same league as say Nora, JAK or Grisham – but still, respectable.

I saw an ad for MJD’s latest on GoFugYourself.com. I thought it was an interesting place for an ad. You know it’s got a largely female audience, you know (if you’ve been reading the blog) that the ladies read romance, or at least one of them does, and you know that those who appreciate their snarky wit might find MJD’s humor perfectly to their taste.

What I would really like to know is how that translates into sales. But I guess even MJD herself wouldn’t know it for sure.
