USA Today Besteller List, Week Ending April 22, 2007

The Children of Hurin, a Tolkien book published posthumously, popped in at No. 2 with Rhonda Byrne’s , The Secret, remaining at the number 1 spot. Jodi Picoult’s book, Nineteen Minutes, about school violence reappeared on the list at No. 19. Romances did not appear in any great numbers with romantic suspense being the big winners. Old standards such as Johanna Lindsey still sell well, capitalizing on a huge and loyal fanbase.

I read OBSESSION by Karen Robards. I thought the book was pretty good until the last 50 pages. It’s got a pretty decent plot twist, but is still a “on the run” book.

I’m confused at a couple of places, reading this list, particularly in the “Out of List” category. For Beauty and the Beast, it said “No. 80 (Peak 99)”. Does that mean it’s still climbing up the chart, or that it was No. 80 last week and suddenly it’s out of the lists altogether? At which number does one drop out of the list, below 150?

    Answers gratefully appreciated.

Sherry – “Out of the list” is my way of noting who was on the list last week and now has fallen out of the top 150. I maybe should delete the “no” part and just keep the “peak” part.

Thanks, Jane. It’s the accountant in me but I’m hooked on these lists.
