Saving Money Spans Generations

Yes, I didn’t know that there was a National Coupon Month either but there is. I read a press release this morning from about a survey of coupon use by age. The most consistent user of coupons is the 55+ age group. 20-percent-off.gif65% of the AARP crowd use coupons on every shopping trip. But the coupon use isn’t exclusive to the 55+ crowd. 51% of 35-34 year olds report using coupons on every trip. The most thrifty age group, however, is the 35-44 year old group who use coupons 61% of the time and 35% of those shoppers save $10-$20 per trip. This group, more than any other, relies on the newspaper for their main source of coupons while the others rely on a combination.

Not really book related, but I thought it was interesting.

Via Press Release.

I shop with coupons. One of my local stores does double up to 99 cents. They’ve started doing triple up to 99cents one week a month. Last month I did two trips in that week. The first trip, I got $150 worth of groceries for $45 dollars. The second trip, I got $93 worth of groceries for $9. yes, nine dollars. For that kind of saving, I can’t afford NOT to use coupons!

I used to do coupons until my wallet started looking like George Costanza’s wallet.

These days, I just make sure I don’t go grocery shopping while hungry. It’s amazing how much junk food you can actually live without. I don’t think I’ve touched a potato chip in nearly a year.

WOOT Angela! :) I want to shop with you!

I love the idea of coupons and saving but as I buy very little that’s processed, (we make everything from scratch here) about the most I’ve ever saved is 5 bucks and that hardly makes the clipping worth it. Especially since I always seem to forget the coupons along with my list. (Can you tell I I’d rather be nibbled to death by ducks than grocery shop?) My dream is to be successful enough that I can afford to hire someone to do that chore for me.
