Love stories are basically modern retellings of Greek tragedies. Thatà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s what a love story is, and so it has these Homeric roots. Romance novels have a much shorter literary history. They have their roots in Grimmà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s fairytales à¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬” which is not a condemnation of the genre.
