Illustrated Romances
Medallion press is coming out with a fully illustrated romance in November. It is titled Passion’s Blood and has an expected print run of 10,000.
I have not seen an illustrated romance book before but I do know I like my fantasy “picture books” when done properly. Any opinions on Medallion’s other illustrated romance book Ellie and the Elven King?

That sounds awfully close to the one that was released a few years back by that romance cover artist and her partner/model. … What was the name of it? Yeah here:
Passion’s Blood at Amazon
It was released 10 years ago and didn’t do very well.

I just followed the link, Jan, I remember that book! I think it might work more with evocative black and white photos or pencil sketches (every couple of pages/chapters) than the full on color stuff.
My instincts tell me that readers really prefer their own images (ie in their heads) of the H/h than the instrusion of in-your-face close-ups/ glossy color pics of someone they might not find attractive, nevermind does not match how they imagine the H/h to look.

You’re right Vanessa, when I read romance novels I prefer to imagine the hero and heroine. But strangely I’ve bought manga simply because I found the h/h to be beautiful, even if the story is mediocre.

I vaguely remember a western romance from years ago that had pen/pencil sketches every 50 or so pages. It did nothing for me.

I bought that book years and years ago, but never read it. It did look pretty though.

Medallion have done this in the past too. I think the reader reviews pretty much cover it from swooning fangrrl to I paid for more words than this!
