Friday News: 2 inspirational videos, a Reader Review program, and an...

Given that news makes you depressed, I thought I would share two videos with you that I thought were particularly inspiring. The first was recorded last night, I believe, and is the beginning of the Boston Bruins game. The singer begins the national anthem but the crowd begins to sing along and when they do, the singer turns off his microphone and you hear the entire hockey rink filled with the chorus of voices.

Great videos! I also love the ‘big gay rainbow across my electorate’ speech by MP Maurice Williamson.

Thanks for the videos, Jane! I think they’re grand.

Also grand? This news about Apple and Good Reads. Granted, I’m an unabashed fan of Amazon (and not so much so of Apple), but even I wondered a little at the news when Amazon finally made the move to buy GR.

Now I feel a little better, and I’ve had my morning “Mwahahaha” to boot!

Both of those videos were wonderful. Totally crying right now but filled with love. Just what I needed. :) Thank you!

I’m pretty sure the hockey video is from the night before last since it was tweeted early yesterday but I’ve watched it several times since because it’s so uplifting. So is the second video. Just what’s needed on this Friday after this week.

I saw the New Zealand video the day the legislation passed and still cry every time I see it. Maybe, maybe, there’s hope for us.

@Darlynne: Yep, I had a good cry, right now, too. I can use one after this week at work, and am sending all my best to both New Zealand and the US for very different reasons.

No lump in my throat. Nope, not at all.

ditto the love for the 2 videos. Also some love for Open Road. They do so much better at converting old books into ebooks than most traditional publishers, I wish they would give lessons! they also put some of Dorothy L Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey books on sale lately, but they don’t leave them on sale so check them out if you’re interested (I love the way they did the covers for those books!).

The game was Wednesday night. The singer, Rene Rancourt, is a fan favorite who’s been singing the anthem longer than I’ve been alive. He usually is accompanied by the organ, so you knew it was serious business when he started out a capella.

Also of note was that the fans changed from their usual chant of “Lets Go Bruins” to “Lets Go Boston” and then “We Are Boston.” After the game, which Buffalo won in the stupid shootout, both teams saluted the fans with a stick salute at center ice.

Sports are our religion, so this was basically the most Bostonian ceremony I could think of. Even I was teary-eyed, and my heart’s a lump of cold, bitter stone.

I posted the Bruins video on my FB yesterday and made my cousin cry, but in a really good way.

Thanks for the videos – I’d seen the New Zealand one but not the Boston one, and they both made me tear up.

@Shelley: I loved that video too – here’s the link for anyone who missed it – http://youtu.be/pCDEiaoEP2U (a New Zealand MP addressing concerns about marriage equality with wit and rainbows)
