Essence.com Announces Its Winners

banksla9490.jpgEssence held its first annual Literary Award ceremony last night. The Storyteller of the Year Award was given to LA Banks, author of the Vampire Huntress series. The Storyteller of the Year award is voted on by the ESSENCE readers.

It has awarded the The Pirate’s Daughter by Margaret Cezair-Thompson its first ever Essence Literary Award for fiction.

Terry McMillan was given the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award. There was a certain synergy in this award since McMillan had won ESSENCE’s first ever college-writing contest in 1974.

All other winners can be seen at the Essence.com site.
