What do you suspect happened to cause this?
All indications show that the money that was prepaid was possibly spent. I have had several comfirmed reports that the printer was NEVER the problem. One came from a bookseller who resides and does business in the same town as Ms. Joy. Her contacts at the printer verify this. I don’t think anyone believes any of the excuses that Cory has tried to give. I really feel that if you look at everything logically, the money was the factor. They either didn’t have enough money to print, or in the end, didn’t have enough money to pay for mass shipping. Because they have continued to take pre-paid orders via the website, I feel that is funding the spurts of mailouts. Cory himself has admitted to having to do the shipping by hand. At this point, the delay could simply be about his having do all mailouts by hand. He is sending what is going out, media mail, even though everyone paid for priority. So obviously money is a factor. Either way, this was a terrible way to do business and it was the fans who have paid the price.
Would you ever buy Dara Joy again if she published with a major publisher or even an e-publisher?
At this point I have lost so much respect for this author and her entourage, that I doubt seriously if I would ever buy another one of her books. Well, there is one I would buy and that would be the completion of the "Matrix of Destiny", Traed’ s story, but it would have to be sitting on the shelf of a bookstore before I would pay a dime for it.
As far as any other authors or books, there are many reputable epublishers. Ebooks and POD is not really a risk for most readers.
This case was just different, because Joy’s website was basically saying they wanted to get an idea of how many to print ahead of time. Although, after the first book, many fans recommended they use POD or epublishers, they simply would not consider it. I now suspect that they simply wanted that money up front as fast as possible.
I’ve read the first book and thought it was not up to her standards and made me wonder how much an editor really does provide!
I agree with you that the quality of the writing was not any where near as good as her previous published books. And Wildcat Arrows was even worse. If you want to know how I feel about the book, check out www.mrsgiggles.com for a review that I feel is very accurate. I don’t know if this is because of a lack of editing or simply because of the tone of her life at the time. There are some that even suspect that she didn’t even write this last book. I have no clue, I only know it was terrible. However, I do admit that my anger over this may be coloring that opinion. I did wait a couple of weeks after I received it before reading.
