Who did you contact? Where you given contact information? Who is Cory and how does he come into play?
As for contact or contact information, the only contact fans had was the name and email addy of the webmaster of her website, Cory, and a mailing address for payments made by mail. I actually do not know his relationship to Ms. Joy. We know he is the webmaster or administrator of her website and is also self- proclaimed as being responsible for coordination of the sales and distribution of the books. There have been rumors that he is manager/boyfriend and I have even had another fan tell me he was introduced to her as Dara’s son. I simply do not know for sure.
This was what was so frustrating for so many fans that ordered the book. We had no other way of knowing what was going on. And Cory was hard to pin down. Ms. Joy made no other statement after that initial letter and never did address the problems with the first book. That should have been our 1st indication of her lack of responsibility and respect toward fans.
What happened with the 2nd self published book, The Amazing Tales of Wildcat Arrows?
Like many fans, I believe that 1st book was simply a testing ground and felt that future publications should run much smoother. I was wrong. Cory began taking pre-orders in Feb 2005, with an expected print and ship date of sometime late summer of 2005. And to entice fans to do so without fear of shipping delays they decided to only ship priority mail, which of course, would cost a little more, but would ensure that everyone would get their books within a few days of shipping. I actually waited and then went in halves with a good friend and paid for my book via mail in May of 2005.
Well, late summer came and went with no word from anyone officially on the website about the delay. Some fans said they heard every so often from Cory in the fan forum. Finally in October 2005, after a lot of complaints starting showing up on the website’s fan forum, Cory posted a letter to fans online. If you can believe it, he basically blamed the delay in the backlog with printers because of Katrina and the shortage of print paper because of that disaster. For the record, the printer he was using was in Massachusetts, not New Orleans or the south.
For me that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I began emailing him demanding my book or refund, and posting my complaints on the fan forum. Neither Cory nor Dara Joy responded. Cory would periodically post on the forum that the books would begin shipping soon but was not responding personally to my emails.
Sometime in January?? 2006, the fan forum no longer would accept immediate posts. All posts were delayed. It became obvious that the posts were being screened when several of my irate posts never showed up in the forum. At that point, one could logically assume they were deliberately hiding the anger of fans and this started what I call the deliberate cover up of how bad the situation really was.
In February, Cory claimed to have started the shipping of the books. To try to shorten this story, no one seemed to be receiving the book. No one claimed to have gotten it. Around three weeks after that claim, I began a very aggressive campaign to get my book. It was at this point that I opened up a complaint line via email at Joycomplaints @ yahoo.com for other fans. I posted this around the net and immediately began getting complaints in. After this we started seeing some posts showing up on the website with reports of receiving the book. I had little faith in these since Cory had complete control of that forum.
