Apple iPhone Price Drop Plus New Touchscreen IPods
Apple announced a new slate of IPods today including a 8 mm thick touchscreen one that looks just like the iPhone, only slimmer.
The current slate of iPods/iPhones are:
- iPod Shuffle ($79)
- iPod Nano ($149, $199)
- iPod Classic, ($249, $349)
- iPod Touch, ($299, $399)
- iPhone ($399) – this is a two hundred dollar price drop
The cool thing is that there is an easy hack for the iPhone that doesn’t void the warranty that allows the installation of an ebook reader. I am totally happy with it and will blog about it once I can get the screenshot utility to work. With the new iPod Touch and the lower priced iPhone, Apple has a viable alternative for ebook reading.

You’ve totally rekindled my desire for an iPhone.

I lust after one, but I don’t want one to read on — I just want to be super kewl.

Angie – it only reads htmls and txt files and there is no bookmarking utility but I am happy with it. I’ve read quite a few books on it this past week. Thank god for hackers.

Meljean – you are already super kewl. No need for an iPhone, although I bet your wonder woman doll would love it. She could text Batman.

“Pls meet me @ cave. I hav lasso 4 u.”

Of course, the question remains: would Batman ever say, “messy me”? :-D

On the one hand, I wished I had waited, because I got an iPod nano a week ago.
But on the other hand, I already have an ebook reader that just refuses to die–I’m going to regret saying this, I’m sure.

Will the hack for the iphone work on the touch ipod?

Wow, I thought the price drop wouldn’t occur until after Christmas. We were going to replace our Razrs with iphones as an end of the year gift from the corporation. Looks like the end of the year may come early.

I really don’t know. I am not sure what the innards are but the hackers would know right away.

Apple is following the same business model as Motorola and Nokia for their phones. When the Razr first came out, it was at the $400 mark. Today, you can get it for less than $100.
I’m so glad I waited to buy the iPhone. :)

See, now I’m paranoid. If he’s presenting all this now, what’s he got up his sleeve for the MacWorld conference? I don’t care, damnit, come to mama iPhone.
