Amazon Reader Purportedly Better Than Sony’s But Also More Expensive

Amazon KindlePublisher’s Weekly reports that the London Book Fair is ripe with gossip about the Amazon Reader. It is reported that Amazon is to release the reader this spring, dependent on content. Amazon Reader will likely run Mobipocket which Amazon purchased a few years ago.

Publishers have already been looking at it for months. Malle Vallik from Harlequin probably reads her ebooks on it.I admit that my jealousy is manifesting itself in an ugly way here, but doesn’t that make you hate these publishers, just a little? The buzz is that the functionality is better and that the cost is to be above $400. The pricing is a bit of downer.

I hope that the design of the Amazon Reader has improved because current pictures show a terrible looking device. I am not sure that I would give up the Sony Reader for it even if there was more functionality. I admit to being vain too. What? Like I’m the only one? Please. How many people own IPODs when there are many other mp3 devices that are less expensive and have more harddrive space? I am just one of the many hundreds of thousands of sheep who like nice looking grass.

That is an ugly little device, isn’t it? For over $400 though, I’m sticking with my ebookwise. Featurewise it beats out the Sony ereader at 1/3 the price and I can’t see Amazon’s having that much more appeal seeing as it’s jsut going to to rehash an old DRM and try to trap me into their delivery program. It looks flat too. One of my big gripes with the Sony is how egronomically unfriendly it is. *sigh*

Wow…I don’t know if that’s a prototype or what, but it’s one ugly device. And for $400?!!! No way!

I think I will stick with my eReader ….$400.00 is a lot of money to spend on a reader plus the cost of books. That is until they bring the price down a couple of hundred dollars

this thing looks like my old Texas Instruments Graphing Calculater from 1988. Way to go Spamazon on your first forray into electronic devices. Id rather use a book than this hunk of plastic. Looks like they outsourced the design to Radio Shack!
