Good Girl Gone PlaidGood Girl Gone Plaid by Shelli Stevens. $ FREE

From the Jacket Copy:

Falling for the bad boy is even more dangerous the second time around.

The McLaughlins, Book 1

In high school Sarah fell for her best friend’s older brother–one of the sexy, Scottish McLaughlin boys. But a painful betrayal showed her she’d been a fool to give her heart to a bad boy. At least it made it easier to leave him and move halfway around the world when her Navy dad got stationed in Japan.

Eleven years later, the death of her grandmother has forced Sarah back to Whidbey Island for a month. It’s the length of time she must stay in her inherited house before she’s allowed to sell it, take the money and run. But when she sees Ian, bad as ever and still looking like sin on a stick, she can’t keep her mouth from watering.

One look at Sarah stirs up the regret lingering in Ian’s heart–and never-forgotten desire lingering in his body. He should walk away, especially since divorced single mothers aren’t his style. But when she starts showing up at his family’s pub, he can’t resist a little casual seduction for old time’s sake.

One thing quickly becomes clear, though. The heat between them is causing an avalanche of secrets and betrayal and nothing will ever be the same.

Warning: A bad-boy hero who’s good with his hands, a heroine who’s trying to be good. Contains liberal consumption of Scotch whisky, a Highland Games competition, men in kilts wielding large poles, and a potential Sarah McLaughlin of the non-musical kind.

This is the first book in a series that follows Scottish brothers and their sister who now live in America. Good Girl Gone Plaid has a reunited lovers theme. The good girl falling for the bad boy, whose even badder all grown up. It’s set a small (island) town. No cliffhangers. The Library Journal gave it a starred review and it has great reviews so far.

The Rebound Guy by Farrah RochonThe Rebound Guy by Farrah Rochon. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Guy Rule #1: Never date a woman on the rebound…
Leave that to Dexter Bryant. The self-declared relationship advisor specializes in “counseling” women who have just ended long-term relationships. He wines them. He dines them. He treats them like queens, all with the purpose of rebuilding their self-confidence. Most importantly, he excels in the fine art of making ex-boyfriends jealous. But Dexter is trying to shake off the stud-for-hire persona in hopes of turning his service into a legitimate consulting business.

However, a stud-for-hire is exactly what Asia Carpenter is looking for. The career-minded PR Crisis Manager is completely blindsided when her ideal man dumps her for another woman, leaving her with a broken heart…and the bill for her engagement ring. Humiliated and dreading the looks of pity from her friends and co-workers, Asia hires Dexter as her pretend love interest, to show her ex-fiancé that she can land a sexy man—and keep him. What Asia doesn’t anticipate is how quickly their pretend love turns into the real thing.

Sunita enjoyed Rochon’s other Maplesville book and mentioned she was picking this one up.

I didn’t enjoy the S.Stevens book, and I’ll likely not be reading another. It was unoriginal: chock-full of obvious and over used tropes and cliches. I couldn’t stay in this story for thinking about all the other stories I’ve read (by other authors I follow) that covered exactly the same ground in exactly the same way.

It also contained typos & misused words (over/overt, muscles/mussels, plowed/plied).

    Was this self-published?
