Always on My Mind (Lucky Harbor Series #8) by Jill ShalvisAlways On My Mind by Jill Shalvis. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

“Count on Jill Shalvis for a witty, steamy, unputdownable love story.” — Robyn Carr, New York Times bestselling author of Harvest Moon

But when she returns home to Lucky Harbor, she finds herself distracted by her best friend, Jack Harper. In an effort to cheer up Jack’s ailing mother, Dee, Leah tells a little fib – that she and Jack are more than just friends. Soon pretending to be hot-and-heavy with this hunky firefighter feels too real to handle . . .

No-strings attachments suit Jack just fine – perfect for keeping the risk of heartbreak away. Takhini Wolves, Book 3

Caroline Bradley is having one hell of a week. Her wolf lover has sniffed out his mate, making her an instant free agent. Not only that, Takhini territory has been overrun with aggressive bear-shifters electing a clan leader, and the wolf pack is feeling the effects—pushing her diplomatic skills to the limit.

Tyler Harrison is a grizzly on a mission. If he’s going to win the majority of the bears’ votes, he needs one final thing: a female companion. The only woman in town with influence over wolves, humans, and more bears than he’d like to admit, is Caroline.

Despite the sexual pull between them, though, Tyler’s not seeking a permanent relationship. And Caroline isn’t looking to be anyone else’s political pawn. But she should have remembered that when shifters are involved, changes happen in the blink of an eye.

Warning: Billionaire bear hero plus kick-ass human heroine equals a sexually volatile power struggle. Get ready for what might be the naughtiest game of tag that’s ever been played in the great outdoors.

This is another pre – order. I have a confession to make here. When authors started branching out from the standard werewolf myth, I was completely against the bear shifter. Something about the big lumbering bears did nothing for me but then I read Shelly Laurentson (The OCD bear shifter was the best) and Jessica Sims (awkward Bear shifter protector) and kind of came around. I’m pro bear now.

Truth Aleatha RomigTruth by Aleatha Romig. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Claire Nichols endured the CONSEQUENCES of Anthony Rawlings’ vendetta.
When she first arrived to his home, her goal was survival. Through strength and compartmentalization Claire captivated her captor. Her resilience in the face of his rule threatened Anthony’s well developed plan. Domination became desire and power turned to love.
Their passion and adoration in a world of opulence appeared perfect. Yet, reality was a roller coaster of emotion. Claire’s world teetered on the edge of sanity as Antony monitored her every move. When given the opportunity to flee, Claire drove away. A fateful decision which set a well laid plan into motion.

However, unbeknownst to either of them, there were others who saw past the perfect facade of Anthony Rawlings. There were others who saw the TRUTH. Conspiracy and unfulfilled promises result in an early prison release for Claire. Not just a release – a pardon. According to the law, her crime never happened!

Will it be that easy? Faced with freedom from her past… can Claire seize it? Can she build a new life, mend her broken spirit, become the woman she once was, and seek her own revenge? Or is it all a game? And does the game master have different plans?

How does Sophia Burke fit into the puzzle that is Tony and Claire? Will her presence affect the future of this well esteemed man? Can he dominate twice? Is that his goal?

TRUTH continues the tumultuous saga of CONSEQUENCES, introduces new players, and uncovers more intrigue. Aleatha Romig skillfully weaves past transgressions through current deception to create a fervent world of obsessed desire. In this reality can an all-consuming relationship survive?

When buried sins are discovered they threaten not only Tony and Claire’s future — but their very lives! Will the TRUTH be revealed in time?

This is the second book in a trilogy and I highly recommend you read the first book, Consequences, before Truth. I’ll also say that I haven’t read Truth because I haven’t really gotten over Consequences. Consequences is not a romance. It’s a mind fuck. You become the Stockholm Syndrome victim as much as Claire, the female protagonist. Claire is beaten and abused by the “hero” of the story and in Truth, there is some redemption for Tony. I wanted to stop reading Consequences but I really couldn’t. I can’t emphasize enough how disturbing Consequences is.

The Bounty Beth WilliamsonThe Bounty by Beth Williamson. $ Free.

From the Jacket Copy:

Book 1 of the Malloy family series. What happens when a bounty hunter finds his prey only to discover she’s his mate? Nicky Malloy is on the run—from guilt, fear, and a murder charge. After three years, the notorious bounty hunter Tyler Calhoun catches up with the elusive lady outlaw. The intensity of their dislike for each other is only matched by the growing passion they cannot seem to control. A loner by nature, a cold hard hunter by choice, Tyler fights his feelings for his prisoner the only way he knows how—by denying them. He’s not prepared for how deeply his feelings will run, or how hard it will be to hold her life in his hands. Pursued by two hapless cowboys bent on taking Nicky in themselves, Nicky and Tyler are forced to turn to each other for aid, trust, and comfort as their journey progresses on its rocky road. Caught in a web of lies and murder, they hold on to each other as they travel to Wyoming to confront the man that brought them together. Tyler has to decide if his love for her is worth more than the bounty he was sent to find. Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, graphic language, some violence.

I’ve only read one Beth Williamson book and it wasn’t this one.

Hi. I so agree about Consequences. I couldn’t stop reading it but I wish I could have. I found it very upsetting! Maybe it should have come with a warning.
By the way, I love Dear Author and appreciate the well thought-out reviews. Thanks!

This reminds me that I own a bear shifter book (Bear Necessities, maybe?), but I haven’t read it yet – maybe I should, so I can see what I think about them. (Honestly, I think after reading Duck! by Kim Dare that my mind was blown open so wide that nothing phases me, shifter-wise).

Falling for You by Heather Thurmeier is free right now from the publisher in exchange for an email address. I didn’t try it because it doesn’t sound like something I’d like to read, but someone here might be interested. ;)

I LOVE Jill Shalvis! I was thrilled to get to meet her at RWA13! Looking forward to reading her latest!

As far as Aleatha Romig, she’s a close friend of mine. I’m so thrilled for her success! I love reading how people are sucked right into her trilogy. It will definitely stay with you long after you finish the stories…

@cleo: Bear Necessities was great, if that’s the one you’ve got – it’s Dana Marie Bell’s Halle Shifters series (big cats, wolves, bears, and other shifters in the extended group of books – Halle Pumas, Halle Shifters, and Poconos Pack).

Goodreads tells me there’s another Bear Necessities, this one by Tressie Lockwood – read that one as well, but I don’t see that I rated it.

(Loved Duck! all to bits – haven’t read the sequel yet though)

@kathy cole: I do have the Dana Marie Bell book – it looks good, I’ll have to move it up the tbr.

I read Magpie – the Duck! sequel. It was fun, but I didn’t like it as well as Duck – which isn’t surprising I guess, since I really, really loved Duck.
