Burning Up by Anne Marsh. $ 2.99
From the Jacket Copy:
It takes a special kind of hero to be a smoke jumper. To take the greatest risks. To live or die in the raging heat of the moment. And it takes a special kind of woman to love him…
Where There’s Smoke…
For Jack Donovan, smoke jumping is a way of life. He lives for the adrenaline rush–the thrill of flying over the burning California hills, the intensity of diving straight into the inferno, the glory of taming the forces of nature. Love is a distant ember compared to the feeling he gets fighting fires–until an emergency call from his hometown brings him face to face with the one woman he can’t forget…
There’s Fire
Lily never got over the handsome rogue who once kissed her senseless–and then left. She vowed she was done with love-’em-and-leave-’em men and small town life. Until a series of malicious fires set by a stalker has her running home to hide. Now, their summer is heating up as Jack fights to save her from the stalker’s fiery threats and to convince her to give the passion between them a second chance.

Shadow’s Fall by Dianne Sylvan. $ 1.99
From the Jacket Copy:
For three years, Miranda Grey-Solomon has kept her role as Vampire Queen of the South separate from her Grammy-winning music career. But now, her dual lives are starting to collide, threatening everything Miranda and David, her Prime, have worked for.
The entire Signet Council has descended upon Austin for its ten-year summit, bringing with it Prime James Hart of the Northeast, a sworn enemy come to take his revenge on those who defied him. But Miranda and David receive an unexpected offer of help from David’s sire, an ancient and powerful vampire with knowledge that may be their salvation–or their doom.
That said, at $1.99 this might be a world fantasy readers might enjoy.

The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O’Farrell. $ 2.99.
From the Jacket Copy:
In the middle of tending to the everyday business at her vintage-clothing shop and sidestepping her married boyfriend’s attempts at commitment, Iris Lockhart receives a stunning phone call: Her great-aunt Esme, whom she never knew existed, is being released from Cauldstone Hospital—where she has been locked away for more than sixty-one years.
Iris’s grandmother Kitty always claimed to be an only child. But Esme’s papers prove she is Kitty’s sister, and Iris can see the shadow of her dead father in Esme’s face.
Esme has been labeled harmless—sane enough to coexist with the rest of the world. But she’s still basically a stranger, a family member never mentioned by the family, and one who is sure to bring life-altering secrets with her when she leaves the ward. If Iris takes her in, what dangerous truths might she inherit?
A gothic, intricate tale of family secrets, lost lives, and the freedom brought by truth, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox will haunt you long past its final page.
I really liked The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox. The intertwining of the past and the present is well done and the writing is excellent. It’s a story about family that is heart-breaking but not utterly depressing.
Hunger Games trilogy is showing at Amazon @ $39.99 on Kindle for me over here. Ouch!
@Kaetrin: I bought it last night for $5.00 via the link in Christine’s comment.
@leslie: Sadly it’s not working (for me) now.
I bought the Anne Marsh though :)
Maybe there is something wrong with me, but I have absolutely ZERO interest in ever reading the Hunger Games. A friend who loves them was describing the plot and the premise to me, and it sounded revolting.
I just checked and The Hunger Games Trilogy is still $5 at Amazon (for the US and Amazon.ca for Canada) & Google as of right now.
@sula: Nothing wrong with you. Just different stroke for different folks, I know there are plenty of popular books I have no desire to read.
I loved The Hunger Games. However after reading reviews of Catching Fire and Mockingjay I decided not to read on since the end of the series seemed to end with no hope in Katniss’ future.
