All Fired Up (DreamMakers, #1) by Vivian Arend, Elle KennedyAll Fired Up (DreamMakers, #1) by Vivian Arend+Elle Kennedy. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

He’s ready to lead the way

Parker Wilson never thought he’d go from battle-hardened soldier to romance expert, but after his stint in the Rangers, that’s exactly what happened. As the owner of DreamMakers Inc., he helps other men win in the love department, using every resource available to plan the perfect date. When a routine recon turns into an unexpected night of passion, Parker’s mission becomes more personal—and he won’t give up until Lynn Davidson is all his.

She’s more than willing to follow

Lynn is a goner from the moment she lays eyes on the delectable Parker. She’s just ditched her boring almost-boyfriend and is tired of sticking to the straight and narrow. It’s time to walk on the wild side, and what better way than in the arms of the most irresistible man she’s ever met? But when their red-hot affair is threatened, it’ll take a team effort to make their dreams come true.

This is a full length novel from authors Vivian Arend and Elle Kennedy. I like Kennedy’s Out of Uniform series so this was a no brainer one click for me. I’m not so sure about a group of soldiers as romance experts…

Born Wild (Black Knights Inc. Series #5) by Julie Ann WalkerBorn Wild by Julie Ann Walker. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julie Ann Walker dives back into action with the red-hot romantic suspense Black Knights Inc. series! They claim they’re bad-boy bikers who own custom motorcycle shop, but these special-ops guys—a mix of Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, Marines, FBI and more—handle the jobs too tough for the government to tackle.

TICK…TICK…
“Wild” Bill Reichert knows a thing or two about explosives. The ex-Navy SEAL can practically rig a bomb blindfolded. But there’s no way to diffuse the inevitable fireworks the day Eve Edens walks back into his life, asking for help…

BOOM!
Eve doesn’t know what to do when the Chicago police won’t believe someone is out to hurt her. The only place to turn is Black Knights Inc-after all, no one is better at protection than the covert special-ops team. Yet there’s also no one better at getting her all turned on than Billy Reichert. She has a feeling this is one blast from the past that could backfire big time…

I enjoyed book 2 in the series but I felt the conflicts were repetitive as the series went on. I never made it to book 5 (which is this one).

Redemption stephanie TylerRedemption by Stephanie Tyler. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Book two of The Defiance Series

Mathias Robichaud is looking for an alliance. The Defiance motorcycle club is a stronghold in the dangerous world that’s become the new norm and he’s driven to prove he’s tough enough to be sworn in as a full member. But when he sees a beautiful, spirited girl abducted by a rival MC, rescuing her jeopardizes all he’s worked for.

Politician’s daughter Jessa Everson knows what’s expected of her—obedience, loyalty and silence—but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t fight when she’s kidnapped by the Lords of Vengeance. Having Mathias save her is like gaining an avenging angel in leather and tattoos. But Defiance is known for brutal justice, and she may have just traded one bad situation for another.

Mathias’s urge to protect is too strong to ignore, no matter how much trouble Jessa brings to Defiance’s gates. There’s no room in the post-Chaos world for weakness so if Mathias and Jessa have any chance of surviving, they’ll need to put their full strength behind the MC?and hope that the MC will do the same for them.

I could have sworn I wrote a review for this book but apparently not. I did read it and I liked it better than the first one.

One Hit Wonder (Rock Stars in Love, Book 1.5) by Elyssa PatrickOne Hit Wonder by Elyssa Patrick. $ Free at ARE | Amazon.

From the Jacket Copy:

a novella of 20,000 words

Jane Timmons has two weeks to . . .

1. Keep her distance from her sexy boss, the once famous pop singer, Damon Suarez.

2. Stay firm. No kissing allowed!

3. And not let Damon know she loves him.

Damon Suarez has two weeks to . . .

1. Convince Jane to not quit.

2. Stage a comeback and be more than a one hit wonder.

3. Win Jane’s heart—no matter what it takes.

One Hit Wonder is a standalone and is very, very loosely connected to As You Wish (available now!) in that both

This is a fun confection of a book. The hero isn’t one of those dark brooding ones, just an obtuse one. It’s a novella and moves quickly.

@marjorie: The groin tattoos on the cover of BORN WILD would induce uncontrollable giggles if I ever encountered them IRL.

@Janine: Agreed. Jellicoe Road blew my tiny mind! Apparently, the author is writing the screenplay for a movie adaptation, but she admits it will be quite different from the book. I also loved her book Saving Francesca and the sequel, The Piper’s Son, I absolutely adored.

@Jolie Jacq: I need to read those! As for the Jellicoe Road screenplay being different from the book, I’m not surprised. I think the book’s structure would be difficult to preserve in a movie, and it might be counter-productive to try.

Have you read Marchetta’s fantasy novels? I was lukewarm on Finnikin of the Rock but I heard the later ones are better. I would love another informed opinion on that, though.

@Janine: Sorry, fantasy isn’t really my cup of tea, so I haven’t read any of them. The only other book of hers I’ve read is Looking for Alibrandi, which I enjoyed but didn’t affect me as deeply as the others. I thought the film version (made in 2000) was great, though.
