Natural Law by Joey W. HillNatural Law by Joey Hill. $ Free

From the Jacket Copy:

Mackenzie “Mac” Nighthorse is a highly respected homicide detective and a career cop. There isn’t a dangerous situation that can back him down.
However, the personal becomes uncomfortably entangled in the professional when he goes undercover in a high class BDSM club as a male submissive in order to find a Dominatrix who is winning the trust and then murdering her chosen partners.

When his path crosses Violet Siemanski’s, he realizes he’s found a Mistress willing to be his ally in finding the murderess. But Violet is also going to shatter Mac’s shields and make him question who he is and what he wants, a challenge more disturbing than any case he’s ever worked.

Get this. Right now. It’s one of the best erotic romances out there and it features a female dom and an alpha male submissive. Truly remarkable. You do not have to read any others in the series (and frankly I didn’t like any of the others in the series). I’ve yet to read a female dom story done like Joey Hill did in Natural Law. It’s unique.

Fade to Black by Francis F. KnightFade to Black by Francis Knight. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

From the depths of a valley rises the city of Mahala

It’s a city built upwards, not across – where streets are built upon streets, buildings upon buildings. A city that the Ministry rules from the sunlit summit, and where the forsaken lurk in the darkness of Under.

Rojan Dizon doesn’t mind staying in the shadows, because he’s got things to hide. Things like being a pain-mage, with the forbidden power to draw magic from pain. But he can’t hide for ever.

Because when Rojan stumbles upon the secrets lurking in the depths of the Pit, the fate of Mahala will depend on him using his magic. And unlucky for Rojan – this is going to hurt.

The Booksmugglers did not like this book even though the world building was great. http://thebooksmugglers.com/2013/02/over-at-kirkus-fade-to-black-by-francis-knight.html

Fade to Black is a formulaic noir-ish dark fantasy novel with futuristic dystopian elements. The former subgenre is exemplified in Rojan’s activities as a bounty-hunter/detective who dons the role of Reluctant Hero as he travels the underbelly of his own world. Been there, done that so many times, I saw most plot developments a mile ahead.

Beguiled Again Patricia BurroughsBeguiled by Patricia Burroughs. $ .99 at Bookview Cafe

From the Jacket Copy:

When sexy, buttoned-down accountant Jeff gets sucked into Cecilia’s sticky, single-mom universe, his life turns inside out. Her checkbook’s a nightmare, her oldest kid hates him, and she’s messy, mouth-watering, independent, and annoyingly unforgettable. He can’t stay away.

Quirky Cecilia has her life (sort of) in order, and doesn’t need a man pointing out where it’s not. A single mom with three kids and a dog can’t afford a sex life, even if he is hotter than ever, and strong just when she needs him to be.

Plus, his parrot hates her.

In this battle between order and chaos, between hostile kids and cranky parrots, between romance and responsibility, is heartbreak inevitable?

Or this time, can love win?

Gone Girl Gillian FlynnGone Girl by Gillian Flynn. $ 4.99 at AMZ | Apple

From the Jacket Copy:

Marriage can be a real killer.
One of the most critically acclaimed suspense writers of our time, New York Times bestseller Gillian Flynn takes that statement to its darkest place in this unputdownable masterpiece about a marriage gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Chicago Tribune proclaimed that her work “draws you in and keeps you reading with the force of a pure but nasty addiction.” Gone Girl’s toxic mix of sharp-edged wit and deliciously chilling prose creates a nerve-fraying thriller that confounds you at every turn.
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy’s diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?
As the cops close in, every couple in town is soon wondering how well they know the one that they love. With his twin sister, Margo, at his side, Nick stands by his innocence. Trouble is, if Nick didn’t do it, where is that beautiful wife? And what was in that silvery gift box hidden in the back of her bedroom closet?
With her razor-sharp writing and trademark psychological insight, Gillian Flynn delivers a fast-paced, devilishly dark, and ingeniously plotted thriller that confirms her status as one of the hottest writers around.

Apple is having a promotion for books that are to be movies. This was one of them and yes, it is a little pricier than most of the deals but given that this is a book that hasn’t been discounted, it’s a pretty good price.

Sins of the Angels by Linda PoitevinSins of the Angels by Linda Poitevin. $ 1.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

When homicide detective Alexandra Jarvis is assigned a new partner in Aramael, a Guardian Angel who doubles as a hit man, they have only one thing in common: a fallen angel hell-bent on triggering the apocalypse. Now they have no choice but to work together-relentlessly, fearlessly, intimately. Because only they can stop the rogue angel from ushering in the end of days.

There is a lot of sexual tension but reviewers complained of insta-love and the worldbuilding wasn’t as fleshed out as readers would have liked.

magic from pain? That sounds like the perfect set-up for some sort of erotic urban fantasy, no?

I haven’t gotten into erotica yet, but I think I’ll pick up the first recommendation because it’s free and highly recommended. I’d be crazy not to, right?! Right. My neighbor got it too so we can chit-chat.

Jane: Ice Queen is as good as Natural Law. Try it if you haven’t yet, you’re missing something.

I read Natural Law based on a DA recommendation. Wow- one of those books you want to sit down and read again! Truly a well written story even aside from the erotica aspect (which was very good as well). I am tempted to download it again just to get that hot cover!

Awesomesauce – I discovered Ms Hill’s books via the library and my first kindle ‘purchase’ was Rough Canvas which is one of life’s great romance stories. I bought Natural Law for a friend a while back but couldn’t justify it for myself, so it’s like being rewarded for doing something good. And it was still free outside the US. Thanks so much for the heads up!!

Just thought I would mention that Club Shadowlands, first book in Cherise Sinclair’s Masters of the Shadowlands series, is free on Amazon.

WOW!! A female dom?! I’m so there. And that cover had me fanning myself – just what a girl needs waiting for her in her bedroom after a hard day’s work ;-). Not to mention the FREE cover price.

I’ve never really got the BDSM books that I tried but maybe I just needed a woman wielding the whip. So to speak…

Indeed, he must be, Luke. Some men are bigger than the game itself and you mentioned a couple in your comment.

I am reading the fabulous, free Natural Law now, and all I can say is…I can’t say anything. Thank you for all the daily deals, but most especially freebies like this. Haven’t enjoyed a book this much in quite a while.
