Sean Rogan risks his life when he goes undercover … but the last thing he expects is to put the woman he loves in danger.

Nothing is more important to private investigator Sean Rogan than his relationship with FBI trainee Lucy Kincaid. But when his past catches up with him, Sean faces an ultimatum: clear his name and help the FBI take down a rogue agent, or go to prison and lose everything he holds dear. With only Agent Noah Armstrong as his back-up and forced to keep Lucy in the dark, Sean steps back into his old world. But the longer he’s undercover, the more dangerous the game becomes. More than Sean’s future with Lucy is at stake—so is his life.

Lucy can’t imagine Sean would keep secrets from her—until an FBI agent casts doubt about who he really is…and who he used to be. Why did Sean quit his job with his brother and move to New York? Why hasn’t he told her anything about his new job? With more questions than answers, Lucy doesn’t know who to believe or who she can trust. All she knows is that Sean is in grave danger, and this time, it’s personal.

“The [series] proves to be both compelling and complex. . . [A] chilling and twisty romantic suspense gem.”—Associated Press

I thought I might have featured this book before but I couldn’t find it in a quick search. This is the 6th book in the series and I don’t know how well it stands alone.

On The Ropes, book 2, out summer 2014

Quinn has published with several different publishers including Entangled and Samhain. I didn’t see a digital copy of the book at BN but it is at Apple for the 99c. price point. One of the reviewers said the heroine is “manly?” and that it is dark but I’m intrigued and bought it. 99c. I am such a weak person.

Twilight by Stephenie MeyerTwilight by Stephenie Meyer. $ 2.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

Isabella Swan’s move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella’s life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

This book…well, I liked it. I did. I even wrote a positive review of it at DA. The remaining books both pissed me off and made me googly eyed with amazement at how crazy the storyline was. But I liked Twilight and so did hundreds of writers including EL James. I saw this hysterical article about how 50 Shades was inspired by some Italian real estate mogul. Um, not really. 50 Shades was twific, through and through. Or maybe even more importantly, Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart’s interpretation of Twilight. Anyway, if you haven’t bought it, now’s a good time. The sale appears to be at Apple and Amazon only.

LOL…I went a little googly eyed at the second Twilight book, too. I never made it to book three because book two pissed me off so much. Absolutely boggles me that so much fanfic (popular enough to ptp) has been created from this mediocre series.

I haven’t read all of the Lucy Kincaid series, but generally Allison Brennan’s books stand fairly well on their own. Each trilogy has a meta-theme, then the trilogies interrelate, but you aren’t lost reading them out of order. What I’ve read of the Lucy books are a bit more intertwined since the whole series follows two main characters, but they could still be read alone and only lose minimal back story meta-theme.

When you said “original twilight” I thought you meant Camilla or Dracula. Ha! I’ll admit there were nuggets of good in it, but it wasn’t my thing. Have you listened to Alex Day read it on Youtube? It’s insanely funny.

@Nemo – no I haven’t heard it read by Alex Day. Will have to check it out.

RE: the Maisey Yates: Please tell me “Makhail Nabatov” is Belarussian or Ukrainian or some other nationality that might actually have a name “Makhail” instead of Mikhail butchered so the author can call him Mak.

Because nothing says Russian like Evan (you know, kind of like Ivan).

@SAO: I never met Ukrainian guy with the name “Makhail” either :).
