Daily Deals: Rockstars and Werewolves

That David Sedaris book is on sale at Amazon now for $2.99. Blurb: David Sedaris’s beloved holiday collection is new again with six more pieces, including a never before published story. Along with such favorites as the diaries of a Macy’s elf and the annals of two very competitive families, are Sedaris’s tales of tardy trick-or-treaters (“Us and Them”); the difficulties of explaining the Easter Bunny to the French (“Jesus Shaves”); what to do when you’ve been locked out in a snowstorm (“Let It Snow”); the puzzling Christmas traditions of other nations (“Six to Eight Black Men”); what Halloween at the medical examiner’s looks like (“The Monster Mash”); and a barnyard secret Santa scheme gone awry (“Cow and Turkey”).

No matter what your favorite holiday, you won’t want to miss celebrating it with the author who has been called “one of the funniest writers alive” (Economist).

Rock Hard (Sinners on Tour Series #2) by Olivia CunningRock Hard by Olivia Cunning. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Trapped together on the Sinners tour bus for the summer, Sed and Jessica will rediscover the millions of steamy reasons they never should have called it quits in the first place…

I find Cunning’s initial books entertaining because you get a really good feel for the rock star life and road trips. The interaction between the band members is hilarious and profane. I was less enthused by the romances as the stories went on but the first two are pretty entertaining. At $1.99 it’s probably worth adding to your library. Also on sale is Hot Ticket, Double Time, and Backstage Pass.

Backstage Pass is the first one. I lost interest after Rock Hard because the romances weren’t as convincing and the characters less dynamic.

Don't Know Much About History: Everything You Need to Know About American History but Never Learned by Kenneth C. DavisDon’t Know Much About History: Everything You Need to Know About American History but Never Learned by Kenneth C. Davis. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Who really discovered America? What was “the shot heard ’round the world”? Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings: Did he or didn’t he?

From the arrival of Columbus through the bizarre election of 2000 and beyond, Davis carries readers on a rollicking ride through more than 500 years of American history. In this updated edition of the classic anti-textbook, he debunks, recounts, and serves up the real story behind the myths and fallacies of American history.

This is the book you want to read before you go to NYC so Jay Leno can’t catch you on camera looking less knowledgeable about American History than your average 2nd grader.

Kiss of Steel by Bec McMasterKiss of Steel by Bec McMaster. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Most people avoid the dreaded Whitechapel district. For Honoria Todd, it’s the last safe haven. But at what price?Blade is known as the master of the rookeries—no one dares cross him. It’s been said he faced down the Echelon’s army single-handedly, that ever since being infected by the blood-craving he’s been quicker, stronger, almost immortal. When Honoria shows up at his door, his tenuous control comes close to snapping. She’s so…innocent. He doesn’t see her backbone of steel—or that she could be the very salvation he’s been seeking.

A lot of Sourcebooks’ books for 1.99 USD. How wonderful! I’ve had Georgette Heyer and Suzanna Kearsley on my wishlist for ages and would have liked to buy a few of them.

Would have liked to… as usual some readers are more equal than others. No go for Europeans.
Disappointed again in those dinosaur publishing houses – not in DA of course :)

I really enjoyed the Bec McMaster books, the first two “Kiss Of Steel” and ” Heart Of Iron” were my favorites. Buyers should be aware that for $2.99 “My Lady Quicksilver” is the third full length book in the series but “Tarnished Knight” while a very nice read, is a novella that takes place between the first and second book and is priced higher ($2.99) than the first two books and the same as the third book. Just didn’t want anyone to be disappointed. I also highly recommend the Susanna Kearsley books on sale at Amazon as well (I believe at $1.99 each). “The Shadowy Horses” is my favorite of hers but others like “Mariana” and “The Winter Sea” are on sale as well. It’s a great price point for anyone wanting to try her work. For any Barbara Michaels fans I always recommend “The Shadowy Horses.”
