Daily Deals: Re-united lovers, grief partners, and a sobering look at...

For fans of the Silver Lining Playbook Matthew Quick’s book “The Good Luck of Right Now” is on sale for $1.99. I couldn’t find it at the lower price anywhere else but Amazon.

Hot Pursuit: A Hostile Operations Team Novel by Lynn Raye HarrisHot Pursuit by Lynn Raye Harris. $ Free | $.99

From the Jacket Copy:

The last man she ever wanted to see…
Evie Baker’s luck just ran out. Thanks to an ex-partner with organized crime ties, she’s lost her restaurant, her money, and nearly all her self-respect. Forced to return to her hometown and work as a shampoo girl in her mother’s salon, she doesn’t think her luck can get any worse.

But then someone starts shooting at her, her sullen baby sister is suddenly missing, and the high school heartthrob who stole her heart-and her virginity-is the only man big enough and bad enough to help.

Might be the only one who can save her…

Captain Matt “Richie Rich” Girard can’t afford to get involved. He’s already on the verge of a court-martial after a Top Secret op gone wrong, and he’s been ordered to stay out of trouble while he’s home for his sister’s wedding.

But when Evie’s ex-partner turns up dead, staying out of trouble is the last thing on Matt’s mind. He failed Evie once before; he can’t fail her again. If he’s going to protect her from a killer, and find her sister before time runs out, he’ll have to risk his entire future-and both their lives-to do it.

Things are about to get HOT in the bayou!

I gave this book a C but it’s definitely worth picking up at the no cost price. The twists in the suspense and the action in the latter half of the story engaged me. Evie was given more opportunity to display wits and bravery but she remained emotionally vulnerable throughout… By the end of the story, I was more satisfied by Evie’s actions but still mystified by Matt’s motivations. Their love connection needed more time to bake in the hot Louisiana sun for me to buy into an HEA.

Roseflower Creek by Jackie Lee MilesRoseflower Creek by Jackie Lee Miles. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

“Roseflower Creek is a compelling, fast-paced narrative that captivates from the first page to the last. It is beautifully written and sensitively told. Don’t miss it!”
-Haywood Smith, author of Queen Bee of Mimosa Branch and The Red Hat?Club

“The morning I died it rained. Poured down so hard it washed the blood off my face.”

It seems everyone in young Lori Jean’s life has a secret, but only one secret will cost her everything.

A surprising tribute to our ability to heal and love in the most difficult circumstances. Roseflower Creek will stay with you long past its final page.

Thought-provoking and disturbing said one three star review.

It Takes Two to Tangle (Matchmaker) by Theresa RomainIt Takes Two to Tangle by Theresa Romain. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Henry Middlebrook is back from fighting Napoleon, ready to re-enter London society where he left it. Wounded and battle weary, he decides that the right wife is all he needs. Selecting the most desirable lady in the ton, Henry turns to her best friend and companion to help him with his suit . . .

Young and beautiful, war widow Frances Whittier is no stranger to social intrigue. She finds Henry Middlebrook courageous and manly, unlike the foppish aristocrats she is used to, and is inspired to exercise her considerable wit on his behalf. But she may be too clever for her own good, and Frances discovers that she has set in motion a complicated train of events that’s only going to break her own heart..

Sarah Wendell of Smart Bitches is a big fan of Romain’s writing but PW says that it is slow and unimaginative. From the reviews, it appears that this epistolary romance is a take on Cyrano de Bergerac.

Bound by Brenda RothertBound by Brenda Rothert. $ .99.

From the Jacket Copy:

College senior Kate Camden has learned to adapt – to her last year of school, to the promise of motherhood, to the fact that she’s doing it all alone. But just when she’s learned to adjust, heartache threatens to break her apart.

Pro hockey player Jason “Ryke” Ryker has it all: adoring fans, a promising career, and a beautiful wife. But when his seemingly perfect life is shaken by tragedy, he’s left questioning whether having it all is ever more than an illusion.

When circumstance brings Kate and Ryke together, they discover they don’t have to hurt alone. Bound by a grief that haunts them both, they must rely on one another to survive heartbreak. But that grief is more powerful than they realize, and the tie that binds them together may ultimately tear them apart.

This is a book I think was submitted for review but I’d forgotten about it until I saw Kristie J’s review. She told me on Twitter that it was a book that stuck with her.

It appears there is a second book that follows what happens after the couple falls in love.

I really liked It Takes Two to Tangle. Although the central problem was one where a single honest conversation would have greatly decreased many of the obstacles to the main couple’s HEA, I did kind of get why the heroine was reluctant to have the conversation. Although I remember engaging in some mild eye-rolling, I never go to the point where I lectured my Kindle (this is A Thing that Has Happened).

Spider’s Bite, this first Elemental Assassin book, by Jennifer Estep is $1.99 on kindle.

I enjoyed It Takes Two to Tangle. It starts out a little slow and had a few miscommunication problems but was well-written and sweet overall.

I very much liked It Takes Two to Tangle, so much so that I bought three other Romain titles…which I did not enjoy so much!

“Bound” is actually free on Amazon and Kobo. I couldn’t find it on ARE or Google, and I didn’t check any other vendors.
