Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth HoytThief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he’s the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles-protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide.

Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she’s asked to tutor the Home’s dour manager in the ways of society-flirtation, double-entendres, and scandalous liaisons-Isabel can’t help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar-and his lips so tempting.

During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything-the Home, Isabel . . . and his life.

If you are looking for unusual historicals, this Regency set story involving Winter Makepeace, a headmaster for an orphanage is right up your alley.

Rogue Rider (Lords of Deliverance Series #4) by Larissa IoneRogue Rider by Larissa Ione. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

They’re here.

They ride.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Born of a match between good and evil, four siblings stand between hell’s minions and everything they want to destroy. They are the Lords of Deliverance, and they have the power to ward off Doomsday . . . or let it ride . . .

Jillian Cardiff came to this remote mountain town to forget the demon attack that almost killed her. Instead, she rescues-and falls for-a gorgeous stranger who has no memory of anything other than his name. Handsome, charming, and protective, Reseph seems like the kind of man whom Jillian can trust. But with hints of a troubling history of his own, he’s also the kind of man who can be very dangerous . . .

Reseph may not know why he mysteriously appeared in Jillian’s life, but he knows he wants to stay. Yet when Jillian’s neighbors are killed, and demon hunters arrive on the scene, Reseph fears that he’s putting Jillian in danger. And once it’s revealed that Reseph is also Pestilence, the Horseman responsible for ravaging the world, he and Jillian must face the greatest challenge of all: Can they forget the horrors of a chilling past to save the future they both desire?

This is number four in the Lords of the Deliverance series. Reseph is a true anti hero so it is interesting to see how he is redeemed.

If I Stay by Gayle FormanIf I Stay by Gayle Forman. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

The critically acclaimed, bestselling novel from Gayle Forman, author of Where She Went, Just One Day, and the forthcoming Just One Year.

In the blink of an eye everything changes. Seventeen year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall what happened afterwards, watching her own damaged body being taken from the wreck. Little by little she struggles to put together the pieces- to figure out what she has lost, what she has left, and the very difficult choice she must make. Heartwrenchingly beautiful, this will change the way you look at life, love, and family. Mia’s story will stay with you for a long, long time.

This is the first in a duology. I read the second one first and really loved it. The first one was a tougher read and I do wonder if I would have responded better if I had read book 1 followed by book 2. Forman is a really strong writer and I think the themes and conflicts are adult enough for most older readers to enjoy this duology.

My Steadfast Heart (The Thorne Brothers Trilogy, Book 1) by Jo GoodmanMy Reckless Heart by Jo Goodman. $ .99.

From the Jacket Copy:

Colin Thorne finds his way out of a London workhouse but at the cost of losing his two younger brothers. With an uncertain future ahead of him, Colin makes seafaring his life until the inexorable pull of revenge draws him back to London. The debt owed to him by the Earl of Weybourne will be paid.

Weybourne Park has been Mercedes Leydon’s home her entire life. Now serving as the estate’s manager and caretaker of her uncle’s two children, Mercedes knows the earl’s frequent absences are what make Weybourne Park a home.

But the earl’s gaming has taken its toll and she and her young cousins are faced with losing everything to a devil-of-a-stranger calling in a debt that can’t be paid.

Casting caution aside, Mercedes will make a new bargain with this devil. If it’s her soul he wants—or her body—she will give it to him and stake her own claim on his steadfast heart.

The Thorne brother’s series is a good one from Goodman, not my favorite, but definitely worth the cost here. The second book, “My Reckless Heart (The Thorne Brothers Trilogy, Book 2)”, is $2.99. “With All My Heart,” book 3, is $4.99

Lion's Lady by Julie GarwoodLion’s Lady by Julie Garwood. $ 3.79

From the Jacket Copy:

Christina Bennett had taken London society by storm. The ravishing beauty guarded the secret of her mysterious past until the night Lyon, Marquis of Lyonwood, stole a searching, sensuous kiss. An arrogant nobleman with a pirate’s passions, he tasted the wild fire smoldering beneath Christina’s cool charm and swore to posess her…

But the fiesty and defiant Christina would not be so easily conquered. Mistress of her heart and of her fortune, she resisted Lyon’s sensuous caresses. She dared not surrender to his love…for then, she must also forsake her precious secret…and her promised destiny!

This is a little pricey for a deal but god, it is one of my favorite Garwood books. When she cuts her hair! Puts his shoes out! Says they are divorced with such innocent regret! Lyon being constantly befuddled. It was awesome. Sigh.

I’ve covered a couple of deals in the past, but just wanted to remind you if you haven’t already purchased them:

Jane Litte is the founder of Dear Author, a lawyer, and a lover of pencil skirts. She self publishes NA and contemporaries (and publishes with Berkley and Montlake) and spends her downtime reading romances and writing about them. Her TBR pile is much larger than the one shown in the picture and not as pretty. You can reach Jane by email at jane @ dearauthor dot com

I have only read one book in that Elizabeth Hoyt series but Thief of Shadows does look tempting

Hoyt’s Maiden Lane books are set in the Georgian period, so they’re a choice for readers wanting a switch from Regencies.

I keep hoping that Garwood’s “The Secret” and “The Prize” will go on sale. I loves them. So, so much.

Thanks for the heads up about the Sherry Thomas books. NQAH is my very favorite by her.

Hoyt’s books are Georgian, not Regency (1730s I believe for this series).

Hoyt’s last two books – Thief of Shadows & Lord of Darkness – are my favorites of hers now. ToS also features a virgin hero and an older heroine.

Every time Hoyt comes out with a book I hope I will like it and never do. I don’t get it, I really should love her books, I read the reviews and think I love all the stuff in this book. This is my kind of romance novel but then it doesn’t work for me. I wish I could figure out the reason.

I so totally agree! This was the first book I put on my iPod. I can pick it up anytime and really enjoy the time I’m waiting for appointments.
