PIRATE HUNTER’S MISTRESS

Marlee Stafford was no fool…
She knew the handsome, arrogant Richard Arden had married her for her money, just as she’d wedded him for his aristocratic name. But Marlee wasn’t about to give up all control to the too-confident baron. She would not sign over her inheritance until she’d enticed her handsome, broad-shouldered husband into desiring only her. But when his hungry kisses began to ignite her most intimate desires, Marlee knew she’d made a weighty error, for this mysterious man harbored a dark secret — and now he was holding her helpless under HIS spell!

Lark Arden’s passions ran deep…
Before meeting Marlee, his one desire was to gain the money for a new ship. But when Lark took on the masquerade of his recently deceased cousin Richard, he never expected his blue-eyed proxy bride to tempt him beyond sanity. Lark had planned only to “borrow” the money from Marlee, then flee. He never planned on stealing her virtue, but how could he resist tasting her sweet lips and sampling this dark beauty’s fiery passions? And how could he live with desiring the very woman he’d soon betray?

The most helpful customer review says this “My reaction to this book all the way through was this is so awful. If I did a review for Smart Bitches, Trashy books, I’d write one of those reviews of an outraged reader. Ok, I got the book for free in exchange for an honest review. I am sorry to disappoint those who gave me the book but it is is just too ridiculous.”

The second review said it was one of the best romances read in a long time.

Wanted (Most Wanted Series #1) by J. KennerWanted by J. Kenner. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

EW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey, Bared to You, and Release Me comes an all-new erotic series of three enigmatic and powerful men, and the striking women who can bring them to their knees.

He is everything I crave, all I desperately want—and he is everything I can’t have.

Evan Black embodies my every fantasy. He is brilliant, fierce, and devastatingly handsome. But he is also headstrong, dangerous, and burdened with secrets.

My family warned me to stay away, that I could never handle Evan’s dark dealings or scarred past. Maybe I should have listened. Maybe I should have run. But our desire is undeniable, and some temptations you just can’t fight.

And from the moment we touch—the passion between us consuming us both—I know that I will never be the same.

Wanted is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

This is indeed in the vein of 50 Shades etc. so if you liked those trilogies, this will suit you as well.

His Very Own Girl by Carrie LoftyHis Very Own Girl by Carrie Lofty. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

From the author of Flawless and Starlight comes an emotional, sensual romance set during World War II about a female British civilian pilot and the American paratrooper medic who opens her heart. An eBook exclusive from Pocket Star!

After the War took the lives of Lulu Davies’s parents and her fiancé, she promised herself she would guard her heart carefully and concentrate on her great love–flying the biggest and best airplanes in the sky. Lulu is a pilot in the British civilian air force, ferrying planes around Great Britain and keeping her eye on a coveted spot in a training program for world-class pilots. She’s perfectly content to strive for greatness in the skies, and dance with a few GIs on the way.

Brawny, quiet American medic Joe Weber signed up with the paratroopers to escape his checkered past; he’s hoping that jumping out of planes and patching up soldiers will earn him respect and a hopeful future. Joe’s first real test of medical skill is on a pilot whose plane takes a hard landing in a training field; after rushing to the crash scene, he is stunned to come face-to-face with a gorgeous Rita Hayworth lookalike. And when the two cross paths at a dance hall a couple weeks later, he can’t resist the urge to find out more about this spirited, dark-haired beauty.

Their flirtation breaks all of Lulu’s rules, but dance by dance, week by week, walk by walk, she finds herself falling in love with this honest, vulnerable man on the run from his demons. But as Lulu and Joe’s undeniable attraction gains momentum, World War II steadily intensifies toward D-Day. Only time and hope will tell if the two lovers can overcome the past to form a beautiful life together in peace-time.

Dabney gave this a recommended grade but I know a few others had some troubles with the research? I can’t recall. This book was dropped to $1.99 shortly after its release. Check your libraries to make sure there are no duplicates.

Miles Cavanagh just wants to hunt in the Shires, but instead he finds himself the guardian to a twenty-year-old heiress hell-bent on marrying a fortune-hunting wretch.

Refusing to let Felicity throw her life away, Miles kidnaps his ward and carries her off to England. But Felicity’s determination is proving equal to his.

As fierce wills clash, and fiery hearts ignite into passion, Felicity faces a choice: pursue her mission, or trust the tyrant she’s come to love.

I don’t remember anything about this book but I’m certain I’ve read it. I’m not in love with the cover…Looks like it’s a present from St. Patrick.

    “Lark Arden”? LARK ARDEN?

I’ve just written my newest romance novel, PASSION’S DEEP GRAMMAR, with its brooding alpha hero, RandomNoun PlaceName, and his sensual pursuit of the fiery Lady Adjective…

    @hapax – lol

@Jane – I love the reviews you quote for the pirate book.

The BN free Friday book is a romance (and amazon usually price matches , tho I haven’t checked). It’s THE WICKED WEDDING OF MISS ELLIE VYNE by Jayne Fresina. I downloaded it, of course – anyone read it?

And what the HELL is going on on the Wanted cover? Why is there a pink line pointing to his crotch? And what is on his lower abs? Those shadows are strange.

See, now I thought it was an indication of the pathway leading up out of his pants. Strange indeed. Kind of like a racing stripe.

“I don’t remember anything about this book but I’m certain I’ve read it.” Yeah, me too! And I know I’ve read all of the Company of Rogues books, but even the descriptions at Amazon don’t jog my memory.

Oh well, if anyone hasn’t tried Jo Beverly yet, she’s a great author – highly recommended (despite my poor memory!

Re The Wanted cover. Well, it is an EW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER. I’m thinking that “EW” is not a typo. :-)
