From the Jacket Copy:

Enter the world of the Dark Dynasties . . .

For centuries, shapeshifting vampire Tynan MacGillivray has prowled the night as an outcast, valued only for his ferocious hunting skills. When a feud among the immortals escalates into all-out war, he is ordered by his ruthless queen to locate a Seer-a human woman with a special gift-who can secure victory for their clan. Ty’s search leads him to a quiet New England town, but once he has the Seer in his grasp, her touch awakens within him a hunger like he’s never known . . .

Lily Quinn has always been different. Since childhood, she’s had vivid nightmares and an eerie sixth sense. When a sexy, silver-eyed stranger demands her help, Lily plunges into a new world of danger and sensuality. With Ty, she discovers sizzling passions she cannot deny and powers she cannot control. Soon, it is clear that Lily is much more than a Seer-she holds the key to ancient secrets and unthinkable destruction. But will a vampire’s vow of eternal protection stop these evil forces . . . or unleash her dark destiny?

The characters are familiar in that the isolated heroine has more power than she knows and is paired with the brooding hero.

Enclave (The Razorland Trilogy) by Ann AguirreEnclave by Ann Aguirre. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20’s. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters–or Freaks–who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight–guided by Fade’s long-ago memories–in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs.

Ann Aguirre’s thrilling young adult novel is the story of two young people in an apocalyptic world–facing dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

Stay With Me by Elyssa PatrickStay With Me by Elyssa Patrick. $ 1.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

New Adult/Contemporary Romance – recommended for ages 17 and up.

With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing-I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same-or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me.

Author Elyssa Patrick is a frequent DA commenter. Her book was reviewed and recommended by Kati who particularly enjoyed the patient and loving hero.

“Caleb is a dreamy beta hero. He’s not dominating in any way, but he’s determined to woo Hailey, and will not allow her to push him away. I found their romance to be quite charming.”

The House of Night series is one of the most bizarre can’t-stop-reading-this-it’s-so-bizarre experiences I’ve ever had. A friend of mine and I alternate buying the books and kindle loaning them because no one should read them alone, there’s too much wtf — looks like we should finish the series now that they’re on sale!

I was intrigued by the blurb for Dark Awakening, but when I clicked over it shows up as being $6.99 at B&N. =(

I got Dark Awakening and I would definitely recommend it. It’s a familiar plot but done very well. The heroine is the prize but she begins to tap into her power from pretty early on in the book, so she’s able to act from more of a position from strength as the story progresses, rather than be a lump moved to different locations. The hero is a brooder but not the typical super powerful “love me and despair” Alpha who’s King of the Vamps, owns swathes of territories etc. This puts them both on more of an even keel and gives realism to the Us Against The World plot. And I love how their relationship is progressing so far — not insta-love but a gradual (as the plot allows) mutual building of trust.

I’m a little over half way in and having a lot of fun. *fingers crossed* :D
