Enclave by Ann Aguirre Enclave by Ann Aguirre. $2.99.

This is the first book in a series. The second book, Outpost, is due out in September. It’s a post apocalyptic setting and geared toward “fans of The Hunger Games.” The book appears very well reviewed.

From Jacket Copy:

New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20s. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

A Beginners Guide To Rakes	Suzanne Enoch A Beginners Guide To Rakes by Suzanne Enoch. $2.99.

In the “Scandalous Bride” series, Enoch is presenting a series of women who try to make a world for themselves without marriage. This is the first book in the series and the heroine, Diane Benchley challenges genre norms. I reviewed the book here.

From Jacket Copy:

All of London is abuzz with the return of the utterly alluring, recently widowed Diane Benchley. Will she remarry? What will she do with her late husband’s fortune? Sociey is shocked by her announcement—at the Grand Ball, of all places!—that she plans to open an exclusive gentleman’s gaming club in the family mansion. But no one is more stunned than the Marquis of Haybury, Oliver Warren.

Years ago, Oliver and Diane shared a private indiscretion. Now Diane threatens to reveal Oliver’s most ungentlemanly secrets…unless he agrees to help her. A notorious gambler—and rake—Oliver is overqualified to educate Diane in the ways and means of running her establishment. But striking a deal with Diane might just be the biggest risk Oliver has ever taken. This time, the only thing he has to lose is his heart…

Never a Lady by Jacquie D'Alessandro Never a Lady by Jacquie D’Alessandro. $1.99.

PW says “The romance between Alex and Colin scintillates, and the whodunit murder mystery makes good use of a beguiling cast of characters, as each come under the scrutiny of the sexy sleuths. “

From Jacket Copy:

Colin Oliver, Viscount Sutton, left his beloved Cornwall for London to find a bride–some comely, proper, wellborn lady to bear him an heir. Certainly not someone like Madame Alexandra Larchmont. Yes, she’s the toast of the ton, and a rare beauty to be sure. But she’s also a fortune-teller. And Colin has an excellent reason for keeping a sharp watch on this one . . .

The cards have warned Alexandra for years about a dark-haired stranger who would wreak havoc with her life, so when she sees him at a soiree, her first thought is to run. Unfortunately, she overhears a murder plot, and the only person she can turn to for help is a man she knows she should stay away from, a man who eyes her with an undisguised hunger.

But fate’s strange turns are Alexandra’s stock in trade. And if love is written in the cards, surely nothing is impossible!

The anthology is free at Smashwords or it was yesterday.

I haven’t read Enclave (I’m kinda waiting for the whole trilogy(?)) but Aguirre is a romance reader so I have high hopes for an upbeat ending.

Enclave won the YA RITA. I’m looking forward to reading it, as Ann Aguirre has written two sets of books, the Corinne Solomon UF books and her PNR series as Ava Gray, that I rally like.

I devoured Once Upon a Ballroom. Cute short pieces.
