THE AVALON LADIES SCRAPBOOKING SOCIETY by Darien Geenookbook The Avalon Ladies Scrapbooking Society by Darien Gee. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Perfect for fans of Debbie Macomber, Kristin Hannah, Beth Hoffman, and Kate Jacobs, this luminous novel from the author of Friendship Bread follows a group of fascinating women who form deep friendships through their love of scrapbooking—as memories are preserved, dreams are shared, and surprising truths are revealed.

Welcome to Avalon, Illinois, Pop. 4,243

At Madeline’s Tea Salon, the cozy hub of the Avalon community, local residents scrapbook their memories and make new ones. But across town, other Avalonians are struggling to free themselves of the past: Isabel Kidd is fixing up her ramshackle house while sorting through the complications of her late husband’s affair. Ava Catalina is mourning the love of her life and helping her young son grow up without his father. Local plumber Yvonne Tate is smart, beautiful, and new to Avalon, but finds that despite a decade of living life on her own terms, the past has a way of catching up—no matter where she goes. And Frances Latham, mother to a boisterous brood of boys, eagerly anticipates the arrival of a little girl from China—unprepared for the emotional roller coaster of foreign adoption.

Enter Bettie Shelton, the irascible founder of the Avalon Ladies Scrapbooking Society. Under Bettie’s guidance, even the most reluctant of Avalon’s residents come to terms with their past and make bold decisions about their future. But when the group receives unexpected news about their steadfast leader, they must pull together to create something truly memorable.

By turns humorous, wise, and deeply moving, The Avalon Ladies Scrapbooking Society is a luminous reminder that the things we hold most dear will last a lifetime.

PW “Gee—who also writes as Mia King (Table Manners)—gets the unapologetically schmaltzy tone just right with the irresistible premise that we can love the impossible.”

The Star Attraction by Alison SweeneyThe Star Attraction by Alison Sweeney. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Sophie is a Hollywood publicist who has a fabulous job, a fabulous boyfriend, and a fabulous life. She even scores her PR firm’s most important actor client and every woman’s dream–Billy Fox. But will a steamy make-out session in a restaurant alley with her big-name client cost Sophie her job? And does she really want an escape from her life and her loving, if imperfect, relationship with her investment banker boyfriend? The Star Attraction takes us on a wild ride through one woman’s daytime soap come to life.

PW writes “Sweeney uses many familiar chick-lit tropes but does it very well and also infuses her story with insider-y Hollywood situations and realistic depictions of relationship woes. It all adds up to a pleasurable read, and a particularly impressive first foray into this genre.”

The Officer and the Bostoner (Western Historical Romance) by Rose GordonThe Officer and the Bostoner by Rose Gordon. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Allison Pierson is a well-to-do young lady traveling by stagecoach from her home in Boston to meet her intended in Santa Fe, but instead finds herself stranded in a military fort in the middle of Indian Territory when her stagecoach leaves without her.

Given the choice to either temporarily marry an officer until her intended can come rescue her or take her chances with the Indians, she marries the glib Captain Wes Tucker, who unbeknownst to her, grew up in a wealthy Charleston family and despises everything she represents.

But when it’s time for her beau to reclaim her and for Allison and Wes to annul their marriage, will she want to go with him, and more importantly, will Wes let her?

This is the first in a series of three Historical Westerns set in Indian Territory (modern day Oklahoma) in the mid 1840s.

I’ve never read Rose Gordon but I believe we have some fans of her Westerns here at Dear Author.

Jane, I think BN heard you. UNTAMED HEARTS and UNTOUCHED are free right now, but nothing else is.

I guess “The Officer and The Bostonian” just didn’t have the same ring to it. Grammar is so pesky sometimes.

I adored Rose Gordon’s “His Contract Bride”, but had to DNF “His Yankee Bride”, after three tries. Couldn’t stomach the heroine’s anger that the hero would not confess his love for her. After having seen him two times. And the narrative seemed to approve her anger!
Anyone can tell me if something like this happens in “The Officer and the Bostoner”?
