This is a box set featuring some of the most popular indie published New Adult books published in 2012/2013. I’ve only read Tijan and Blair. Tijan…her writing is in desperate need of an editor but I found the first couple Fallen Crest High books to be incredibly crackstastic. I’d kind of compare her to Lora Leigh. Compelling against your better judgment.

Savage Secrets (Titan) by Cristin HarberSavage Secrets by Cristin Harber. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

**Adult audiences: book includes violent scenes**

Savage Secrets is the newest title in the USA Today Bestselling Series!

When the past is impossible to ignore, love may be the only way to survive.

Caterina Cruz has no home. No loyalties. No objection to exacting torturous revenge. Her life’s mission is to destroy the terrorist who murdered her family. Then she steps into an elaborate game of charades alongside a Titan Group operative posing as an arms dealer–and her newlywed husband. The sexy distraction may be more than she can handle.

Attacked with a psychedelic drug weeks before, Rocco Savage is plagued with hallucinations that threaten his new rank as Titan’s second-in-command. No one knows and he wants to keep it that way. Throwing him further off his game, he now has a wife with her own secrets he can’t crack and an agenda he can’t control.

Their mission–an elaborate deception of heated glances and passionate kisses–spins out of control. With Rocco’s mind already compromised, can he keep his secret and his distance? And with Caterina’s tragic past controlling her every move, can she keep the con up long enough to secure her revenge? Or will both go down in flames?

One review notes that there is a graphic rape of the heroine in the middle of the story. There aren’t a lot of negative reviews of this book although one did say it was hard to get into at first.

Knight (An Impossible Novel) by Julia SykesKnight by Julia Sykes. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

He wants to know my name. I have to answer, have to obey, but I can’t. I am plaything, a possession. And slaves don’t have names. Why is he tormenting me like this? I need to please him so that I can get my reward. God, I need a fix. I’ll die if I don’t get one.
Lydia Chase is a broken woman. Her Master abducted her from a BDSM club over a year ago, and she has been under his complete control ever since. Her only escape from the pain is the sweet high of the heroin that he gives her as a reward. And she will do anything to earn that reprieve.

When Master takes his slave out in public to test her, her world is rocked when the BDSM club is raided by the FBI on a drugs bust. Her savior, Agent Smith James, proves to be her guardian angel, holding her hand through every agonizing hour of rehab. But the soul is much more difficult to heal than the body, and Lydia finds herself becoming completely dependent on the Dominant Smith, finding comfort in his control of her body and mind as their relationship becomes sexual. A part of her recognizes that what they share is obsessive and unhealthy, but she can’t imagine how she would go on living without him. And somehow, impossibly, he seems to feel the same. But how can Lydia ever become whole again if she can’t learn to let him go and take control of her own life? Does she have a hope of finding freedom when Smith refuses to release her heart? Or is this new captivity just what she needs to survive?

WARNING: Given the nature of this story, this book contains graphic violence and references to rape and torture. This is not meant to be gratuitous, as it is essential to understanding Lydia’s psychological development, but some readers may find it upsetting. However, the story does have a HEA and sizzling scenes of (consensual) BDSM!

NOTE: Knight is part of the Impossible series, but it can be read as a standalone story without spoiling the other books.

The one negative review said that she felt that the heroine was too passive throughout the story and that she would have liked to have seen a stronger heroine in this position.

Unfiltered and Unlawful by Payge GalvinUnfiltered and Unlawful by Payge Galvin. $ Free.

From the Jacket Copy:

After a night-shift shooting of a drug dealer in The Coffee Cave, thirteen strangers each walk out with more than $100,000 in dirty money, a pact never to meet again, and the chance to start over …

Until that night, Sasha “Sugar” Kovac spent her days selling coffee to the co-eds at ASU Rio Verde and her nights trying not to run back to her ex . . . or join the throngs of girls lusting after her friend, Adam.

But why should Sugar give in to the Harley-riding tattoo artist when his longest relationships haven’t lasted more than a weekend?

Sugar’s life takes a turn for the dangerous when someone comes looking for the people connected to the Cave shooting and the cash they split.
To protect herself and those she cares about, Sugar has to get out of town –and fast. When Adam insists on coming with her, Sugar finds herself holed up in a tiny house with a hot man, a stash of cash, and a lot of secrets.

Can Sugar protect both her life and her heart when temptation is so close? Or is the past she’s fled going to catch up with her?

This is kind of an interesting premise. A number of different authors have gotten together to write stories around the same inciting event. The negative reviews say that the book is rather unbelievable and the blurb that the hero is a harley riding tattoo artist sets up expectations of harley riding and tattoos but that those elements are incidental to the story.

I’ve been meaning to mention that the “Help DA Out” link, the one to be used to share the Amazon purchase price with Dear Author, seems to be missing, at least on the Firefox browser I use.
