Sweet Revenge (Nemesis Unlimited Series #1) by Zoë ArcherSweet Revenge by Zoe Archer. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

When Jack Dalton escapes from Dunmoor Prison, he has only one thing in mind—finding the nobleman who murdered his sister and making him pay. But when he reaches the inn where the Lord Rockley is rumored to be staying, three well-dressed strangers are there to meet him instead. And the pretty blonde is aiming a pistol right at his head …

Joining Nemesis, Unlimited has made Eva Warrick much more than the well-mannered lady she appears to be—one who can shoot, fight, and outsmart any man in the quest to right the injustices so often suffered by the innocent. She’s not afraid of the burly escaped convict, but she is startled by their shared attraction. She and her partners need Jack’s help to get to Rockley, but Eva finds she wants Jack for scandalous reasons all her own…

This is book one in the ___ series. Archer emailed me and said that she hadn’t seen her book on sale before so it’s a good time to buy it. PW says that it is a bold mix of unlikely romance and gritty setting. It’s the first in a series, though.

Clair de Lune: A Novel by Jetta CarletonClair de Lune: A Novel by Jetta Carleton. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

An unexpected treasure: A long-lost novel of innocence threatened, by the author of the beloved classic The Moonflower Vine

The time: 1941, at the cusp of America’s entry into World War II. The place: southwest Missouri, on the edge of the Ozark Mountains. A young single woman named Allen Liles has taken a job as a junior college teacher in a small town, although she dreams of living in New York City, of dancing at recitals, of absorbing the bohemian delights of the Village. Then she encounters two young men: George, a lanky, carefree spirit, and Toby, a dark-haired, searching soul with a wary look in his eyes. Soon the three strike up an after-school friendship, bantering and debating over letters, ethics, and philosophy—innocently at first, but soon in giddy flirtation—until Allen and one of the young men push things too far, and the quiet happiness she has struggled so hard to discover is thrown into jeopardy.

Talk about a long time in coming. This book was released 50 years after the author’s bestselling debut “The MoonFlower Vine.” Kirkus says ” Fine and dry, with a faint flavor of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Carleton’s vignette of innocence and experience has a bright wit and perceptive charm, rendered all the more enjoyable by its retro feel.”

Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus QuinnAnother Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn . $ 1.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

The spine-tingling horror of Stephen King meets an eerie mystery worthy of Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liars series in Kate Karyus Quinn’s haunting debut.

On a cool autumn night, Annaliese Rose Gordon stumbled out of the woods and into a high school party. She was screaming. Drenched in blood. Then she vanished.

A year later, Annaliese is found wandering down a road hundreds of miles away. She doesn’t know who she is. She doesn’t know how she got there. She only knows one thing: She is not the real Annaliese Rose Gordon.

Now Annaliese is haunted by strange visions and broken memories. Memories of a reckless, desperate wish . . . a bloody razor . . . and the faces of other girls who disappeared. Piece by piece, Annaliese’s fractured memories come together to reveal a violent, endless cycle that she will never escape—unless she can unlock the twisted secrets of her past.

This creepy book was part of our August giveaway. Nothing good comes of hanging around the railroad tracks. This is the second lesson I taught my daughter. The first being that white tights don’t look good on anyone under the age of 10.

Re: White tights??? Shouldn’t that be that white tights don’t look good on anyone OVER the age of 10? To me they seem cute on pudgy little pegs, but peculiar on older gams. Unless, of course, they are part of elaborate historical get-ups.

@Mzcue: Yes, that’s what I meant. No white tights for anyone over the age of 10!
