Head Over HeelsHead Over Heels by Jill Shalvis. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Breaking rules and breaking hearts

Free-spirited Chloe lives life on the edge. Unlike her soon-to-be married sisters, she isn’t ready to settle into a quiet life running their family’s newly renovated inn. But soon her love of trouble—and trouble with love-draws the attention of the very stern, very sexy sheriff who’d like nothing better than to tame her wild ways.

Suddenly Chloe can’t take a misstep without the sheriff hot on her heels. His rugged swagger and his enigmatic smile are enough to make a girl beg to be handcuffed. For the first time, instead of avoiding the law, Chloe dreams of surrender. Can this rebel find a way to keep the peace with the straitlaced sheriff? Or will Chloe’s colorful past keep her from a love that lasts . . . and the safe haven she truly wants in a town called Lucky Harbor?

I liked this one. The sheriff, despite his desire not to get involved with Chloe, is a sweet, care taking alpha. I envisioned a different end for Chloe than the very domestic one she was given.

Beneath the Secrets

The complete volumes

Prelude-Part 4 the conclusion

A complete novel originally released as a serial

Blake Walker left behind the ATF when the drug cartel he was hunting cost him the life of his fellow agent, and fiancee. Now, two years later, he’s working with his brothers at Walker Security, but he’s living fast, hard, and wild, until he reaches the ultimate high…revenge. And he’s close, so close he can taste it. He’s one meeting, one woman, away from being inside one of the money laundering shells the cartel operates.

One woman….

One dangerously hot night….

Part 1

Two paths collide.

Two people who will do anything, including sleeping with the enemy, to avenge or save someone they love. But what if everything isn’t as it seems and the enemy isn’t the enemy at all? Can these two broken people drawn together by their sizzling hot attraction see beyond their pain and their need for vengeance and find the trust they will need to survive a vicious drug lord’s wrath before it’s too late?

Part 2

Vengeance is all Blake Walker has lived for….until he met her. She will bring him to his knees but will it be in passion or pain?

Part 3

Blake has discovered Kara’s true identity and with it the past that has haunted him for two years will be recreated. She is everything that will destroy him and the only one who can save him.

Part 4

Kara and Blake will face the ghosts of their pasts, but will those ghost destroy them or forever bind them?

I can’t decide if this is a deal or not. I think it is because it was originally sold separately so at $2.99 there is some discount, right?

In The Midnight Rain by Barbara SamuelIn the Midnight Rain by Barbara Samuel. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

A RITA award finalist for Best Contemporary Romance from Romance Writers of America. Barbara Samuel’s first women’s fiction, writing as Ruth Wind.

Ellie Connor is a biographer with a special talent for piecing together fragments of the past. Her latest project, though, promises to be her most challenging–and personal. Not only is she researching the life of a blues singer who disappeared mysteriously forty years ago, but Ellie is also trying to find the truth about the parents she never knew. The love child of a restless woman who died young and an anonymous father, Ellie has little to go on but a faded postcard her mother sent from a small East Texas town–the hometown of her latest subject.

It is there that Ellie meets Blue Reynard, a man with deep roots and wide connections who may help her find answers. With a piercing gaze and cool grin, Blue is as sultry and seductive as the Southern night air. Beneath his charming surface, however, lies a soul damaged by loss. Despite her better judgment, Ellie finds herself irresistibly drawn to Blue’s passion–and his pain. But Ellie’s been lured by sweet talk and hot kisses before. How can she possibly stay with blue when every instinct tells her to run?

So I hesitate to promote anything by Barbara Samuel lest she come over and call us unethical mean girls like she did during the Cassie Edwards plagiarism thing-y but I have to tell you that I really loved this book and at 99c, it’s totally worth it.

Never Too Late by Amara RoyceNever Too Late by Amara Royce. $ 1.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

Expect the unexpected, especially in a room filled with books. . .

Honoria Duchamp is well aware that men often consider widows easy prey for the role of mistress. What else could explain the attentions of handsome Lord Devin, and his visits to her bookshop? The much younger Viscount has even shown interest in the printing press with which she creates pamphlets on London’s basest injustices. Yet his chief interest appears to be in her. . .

Coerced to investigate Nora’s controversial pamphlets, Devin expected to find a bookish matron. Instead, he is taken with Nora’s womanly beauty, sharp intellect, and quick wit. Soon, what begins as an unwelcome task becomes a pleasure, and Devin’s job becomes more dangerous-for them both. For Nora has no idea of the vicious element she’s crossed. Now Devin will risk his reputation to protect her-and much more to win her love. . .

Romance readers love stories about book lovers. It’s like an Escher-esque infinity loop.

In the Midnight Rain – agreed. Awesome book. In fact, that’s the only book I’ve read by her. Not running out to remedy that though.

Barbara Samuel is an amazing writer. Thanks for the heads up, and if anyone is hesitating about buying het work because of the Cassie Edwards thing-y….well, don’t. I find I can forgive artists almost anything if I love their art.

So I was debating buying the Samuel book, a fantastic rec vs the ‘mean girls’ thing – went to Amazon just to look and make my decision and realized I’d already gotten it. Over a year ago. For free. LOL.

NEVER TOO LATE was a did-not-finish for me, sadly. It has a great premise: nobleman trying to impeach the character of a 40-something (maybe 30’s) librarian heroine. But it totally went off the rails with lies and crazy over reactions (I really cannot abide crazy over reactions).

I am definitely buying the one about the sherriff, though.
