Random Acts of Trust Julia KentRandom Acts of Trust by Julia Kent. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

**On sale for $.99 for a limited time (regular price $3.99)**
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent comes the newest book in the Random series…

Giving up is hard…but giving in is even harder.

When did my life become a demented episode from The Mindy Project?

Moving to Boston to begin grad school meant I was supposed to start a new life — not dig through a past I thought I’d left behind four years ago. But when I saw the poster for Random Acts of Crazy, all I could think about was the drummer, Sam Hinton, the boy I’d loved in high school and who disappeared with my heart.

Who knew I’d become the living version of Magic Mike?

Seeing Amy Smithson at my gig and watching her win a kiss from my bandmate, Liam, was a gut punch. Four years ago we squared off in a high school debate that had higher stakes than we ever imagined, and here I was…wanting what I’d walked away from. Are there too many secrets between us to allow her to trust me again?

And can I trust myself?

The second book in the Random series after the wildly successful New York Times and USA Today bestseller Random Acts of Crazy, Random Acts of Trust is a New Adult romantic comedy that explores the love between one man, one woman, and ends with one Happily Ever After (and no cliffhangers or chickens!). Fate took their lives by storm four years ago and put an unbreachable gulf between Sam and Amy. This 87,000 word/346 printed page book asks: Can time really heal all wounds…or are some scars too deep?

I kind of like the extended warning/explanation at the end of the blurb. At least you know what you are getting yourself into with this book.

Not my favorite Kowalksi book but it is free!

THE WAKING DARK by Robin WassermanThe Waking Dark by Robin Wasserman. $ 2.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

The Waking Dark is “a horror story worthy of Stephen King” (Booklist) and “a book you won’t soon forget” (Cassandra Clare, author of the Mortal Instruments series)—perfect for readers of Gillian Flynn and Rick Yancey.

They called it the killing day. Twelve people murdered, in the space of a few hours, their killers also all dead by their own hand . . . except one. And that one has no answers to offer the shattered town.

Something is waking in the sleepy town of Oleander, Kansas—something dark and hungry that lives in the flat earth and the open sky, in the vengeful hearts of its upstanding citizens. As the town begins a descent into blood and madness, five survivors of the killing day are the only ones who can stop Oleander from destroying itself.

They have nothing in common. They have nothing left to lose. And they have no way out. Which means they have no choice but to stand and fight, to face the darkness in their town—and in themselves.

One reviewer said that while this is a YA book, there is a lot of violence, sex, drug use and profanity. Also a huge cast of characters and a bit of repetition.

I was really intrigued by the Julia Kent blurb so I went and downloaded a sample of the first book.

The opening line to Random Acts of Crazy is: “The last everloving fucking thing I expected to see as I drove down I-76 toward my little hometown of Peters, Ohio was a buck-naked man wearing a spiked collar and a guitar.”

But the Kent book doesn’t have chickens. I think I’d like to have chickens. (And, no, this isn’t a reference to the cock article.)

The Shannon Stacey is priced at $3.82 in the kindle store. However, I spotted a kindle only deal on Connie Brockway’s All Through the Night. It is only $0.99 at Amazon.

ARe is doing a series of boxed sets on sale for the rest of Dec. Today and tomorrow it’s 3 alien abduction stories by Eve Langlais –

I’ve read a couple of her shifter books and thought they were light and sexy reads, but I haven’t read her alien books.

@cleo: Oh, thank you for that! I haven’t read her alien stories but so far none of her books has led me astray, so I’m definitely grabbing that.

Kobo also has a trivia contest on, you get individual discount coupons for each trivia question you answer correctly — and you don’t need a *cough* valid email to get the coupons. I did sign up with my real one and noticed my spam numbers jumped significantly, grumble.

Between the two reviews today and the daily deals, that makes 4 books added to my TBR. Possibly 5 if the Brockway comes up as discounted for me…
