Fall of Giants: Book One of the Century Trilogy by Ken FollettFall of Giants by Ken Follett. $ 2.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

Ken Follett’s magnificent new historical epic begins, as five interrelated families move through the momentous dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women’s suffrage.

A thirteen-year-old Welsh boy enters a man’s world in the mining pits.…An American law student rejected in love finds a surprising new career in Woodrow Wilson’s White House.… A housekeeper for the aristocratic Fitzherberts takes a fateful step above her station, while Lady Maud Fitzherbert herself crosses deep into forbidden territory when she falls in love with a German spy.…And two orphaned Russian brothers embark on radically different paths when their plan to emigrate to America falls afoul of war, conscription, and revolution.

From the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty, Fall of Giants takes us into the inextricably entangled fates of five families—and into a century that we thought we knew, but that now will never seem the same again.…

I have it from a reliable source that this is a one day only deal so you’ll want to buy today if you intend to take advantage of the price.

The Curl Up and Dye by Sharon SalaThe Curl Up and Dye by Sharon Sala. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Wally Lamb meets Steel Magnolias in this story of LilyAnn Bronte, the Peachy-Keen Queen, which in Blessings, Georgia, was epitome of success.

Those were the best days of her life…

“Poor LilyAnn,” the local ladies lament. “She sure is stuck in the past.”

Eleven years ago, LilyAnn Bronte was the Peachy-Keen Queen of Blessings, Georgia—the prettiest, smartest, and most popular girl in town, going steady with the star quarterback, a high school career on the fast track to success. Then Randy Joe was killed in Iraq, and somehow LilyAnn just let herself go to seed.

Ruby, Mabel Jean, Vera, and Vesta of the Curl Up and Dye have been itching to give LilyAnn a makeover, but she knows it would make more than a new hairstyle for her to get her life back.

Until one fateful day, when a handsome stranger roars into town, and LilyAnn has a revelation.

Maybe the best is yet to come…

Jayne, have you read this? Seems like it might be up your alley. It’s a cute cover and name. (And yes, I know Sala is one of those crazy authors who have a thing against reviews and reviewers and despite using a pseudonym herself demands that all reviewers go by their real name but it still could be a good read).

Fatal Tide (The East Salem Trilogy) by Lis WiehlFatal Tide by Lis Wiehl. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

In East Salem, the elite St. Adrian’s Academy is at the nexus of a satanic apocalypse—and the fatal tide is rising.

When Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights is reunited with the pagans who commissioned it, a dark prophecy begins to unfold in East Salem, beginning with a savage double-murder by hellish creatures straight out of the painting itself. The lone survivor of the attack, a seventeen-year-old Brit, finds sanctuary at Tommy Gunderson’s home—and the place is soon surrounded by demons who seem to be biding their time…but for how long?

Tommy’s pond has been contaminated with Provivilan—an insidious drug that could transform New York City’s children into an army of violence-addicted murderers. But for an occult cabal in the upper echelons of Linz Pharmaceuticals, contaminating the water supply is just part of an ancient conspiracy against all of humankind.

As the clouds gather, Tommy and Dani realize they must infiltrate Linz and St. Adrian’s to stop the dissemination of Provivilan. Even then, it could take a tangible eruption of the battle between angels and demons to save humanity from the supernatural evils that have been summoned to East Salem.

The author’s bio says she is a frequent commenter on Fox News. The publisher is Thomas Nelson so I suspect that this is heavily dosed with Christian theology. It occurs to me Fundamentalists are uniquely suited to be interested in post apocalyptic events. Our entire teachings when I was a kid was about how we have to prepare for the end times.

But when landscape designer Ami Jordan shows up at his log cabin, he suddenly develops a hankering for a high-maintenance city gal. He’s a lumberjack in love.

You know how books get lost in your to be read pile? This is one of them that I always had intentions to read. It was recommended by various readers and bloggers who loved it for the freshness of the characters as well as the romance.

Kevin Hearne’s “Shattered”, to be released on Tuesday just dropped from $10.99 to $5.99 on Amazon. I’m pretty sure that’s the lowest pre-release price on any of his books.

Hmmm, author who might go batshit on me who has written one of those sickly sweet “Southern” books? Ah, just no.
