The Reluctant Lark: A Loveswept Classic Romance by Iris JohansenThe Reluctant Lark by Iris Johansen. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

In this classic novel of love and loss from #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen, a delicate songbird discovers her true colors—with a little help from a charismatic billionaire intent on setting her free.

Her dark eyes and haunting voice have earned gypsy-haired singer Sheena Reardon renown on both sides of the pond as “Ireland’s Mournful Dove.” Trying to forget her tragic past, she threw herself into her art long ago and let her overprotective uncle handle the rest. Now, at a stuffy New York cocktail party, she spots a friendly face in the crowd . . . and learns that it belongs to a ruggedly handsome, wickedly tempting stranger who knows her better than she knows herself.

To oil magnate Rand Challon, Sheena is more than a carefully manipulated stage persona. She’s a flesh-and-blood woman whom he desires with all his heart—which is why he spirits her away to his isolated mountaintop retreat. Out of the spotlight and under his sensual tutelage, Sheena learns to spread her wings. But Rand must leave it up to his reluctant lark whether to take flight . . . or find a home in his arms forever.

Includes a special message from the editor, as well as excerpts from these Loveswept titles: Along Came Trouble, The Notorious Lady Anne, and Unforgettable.

Some of early Johansen romances were great fun but this one has some fairly poor reviews. That said her new audience of thriller readers hate her romances so it’s hard to say who is giving the reviews.

Farm Fatale: A Comedy of Country Manors by Wendy HoldenFarm Fatale by Wendy Holden. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

A witty, beloved novel of heart and heartland, Farm Fatale skewers the culture clash of city vs. country in the snappy, observant style that made Wendy Holden famous.

Cash-strapped Rosie and her boyfriend Mark are city folk longing for a country cottage. Rampant nouveaux riches Samantha and Guy are also searching for rustic bliss-in the biggest mansion money can buy. The village of Eight Mile Bottom seems quiet enough, despite a nosy postman, a reclusive rock star, a glamorous Bond Girl, and a ghost with a knife in its back. But there are unexpected thrills in the hills, and Rosie is rapidly discovering that country life isn’t so simple after all.

Green Acres meets 2001? PW says “With enjoyable if limited characters and a wonderfully awful-to-watch side plot involving the truly horrible “Sasha Villiers” (her “stage” name), this lighthearted romp, surprisingly unpredictable, smart and fun, is refreshing fare readers can turn to when they’re tired of lifeless Bridget clones.”

I double checked the date. There were books published in 2001? (I kid!)

An Invitation to Sin by Sarah MorganAn Invitation to Sin by Sarah Morgan. $ 1.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

Snapped and seduced: there’s nothing more dangerous than a restless Corretti?

Taylor Carmichael holds one thing precious: the reputation she’s spent years rebuilding. Then one encounter with Corretti lothario Luca, a bottle of chilled champagne and a skintight dress and the paparazzi have their shot.

Cool, calm and irritatingly aloof, Luca couldn’t care less. Splash his face over the papers—he has bigger fish to fry. But Taylor is fuming. Luca had the chance to halt the press and refused. Well, this time she’ll make the headlines work for her:

Sunita gave this book a B+:

Part of what makes this HEA gratifying is that neither character has to turn into someone different in order to achieve it. Taylor is no longer frantic and on edge, but she’s still recognizably the same person. And Luca is definitely the same person. He’s more willing to love and be loved but he’s still a bad boy, one who is slightly surprised at where he has voluntarily wound up. Grade: B+

According to Shana Galen’s enewsletter, A Grosvenor Square Christmas should be free at Amazon and B&N soon. The authors are self pubing it and are working to get it on most digital retailers. They have to jump through certain hoops at each site which takes different amounts of time to get the book out.

I know it’s an *older* Johansen, but … “gypsy-haired”? Really?

Does anybody know if that’s from the book, or just the blurb?

I LOVE Wendy Holden’s books. Farm Fatale was the first one I read, but the whole series is charming.

Sigh. I loved Luca Corretti, he’s one of my favorite SM heroes. He’s very comfortable in his bad boy skin.
