Daily Deals: Four series romances for one dollar

The following deals are good at Amazon and Sony (for the ePub readers)

Virgin River Robyn Carr Virgin River by Robyn Carr. $1.

From Jacket Copy:

Wanted: Midwife/nurse practitioner in Virgin River, population six hundred. Make a difference against the backdrop of towering California redwoods and crystal-clear rivers. Rent-free cabin included.

When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache, and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving: the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she’s made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.

But a tiny baby, abandoned on a front porch, changes her plans…and a former marine cements them into place.

Melinda Monroe may have come to Virgin River looking for escape, but instead she finds her home.

This is the start of the famed Virgin River series. It’s actually highly addictive and every one from the town drunk eventually reforms and gets an HEA. It’s not a series for everyone but it’s super popular.

Dragon Actually G. A. Aiken Dragon Actually by G. A. Aiken. $1.

From Jacket Copy:

It’s not always easy being a female warrior with a nickname like Annwyl the Bloody. Men tend to either cower in fear-a lot-or else salute. It’s true that Annwyl has a knack for decapitating legions of her ruthless brother’s soldiers without pausing for breath. But just once it would be nice to be able to really talk to a man, the way she can talk to Fearghus the Destroyer.

Too bad that Fearghus is a dragon, of the large, scaly, and deadly type. With him, Annwyl feels safe-a far cry from the feelings aroused by the hard-bodied, arrogant knight Fearghus has arranged to help train her for battle. With her days spent fighting a man who fills her with fierce, heady desire, and her nights spent in the company of a magical creature who could smite a village just by exhaling, Annwyl is sure life couldn’t get any stranger.

She’s wrong…

And just wait until you meet the rest of the family…

This book has been previously published.

Warning: This book is the ebook reproduction of the print book released September 2008 from Zebra. No changes have been made from that version.

This is a campy, good natured book. A negative review calls it trashy dragon porn. Yeah.

Lorelie James Kissin' Tell Kissin’ Tell by Lorelie James. $$1.

From Jacket Copy:

She once led him around by a string. Now he’s the one holding the reins.

Rough Riders, Book 13

Georgia Hotchkiss swore wild horses couldn’t drag her back to Sundance, Wyoming. So it’s ironic she’s forced to take a rodeo PR job in her former hometown—right before her ten-year class reunion. The only thing worse than facing her cheating ex-husband and his pregnant wife? Showing up to the reunion without a date. Fate smiles on her when she runs into her former classmate and current cowboy hottie Tell McKay. With his infectious smile and fun-loving ways—not to mention his banging body—he’s the perfect solution to her problem.

Tell McKay had it so bad for Hot Lips Hotchkiss during high school that he let her run roughshod over him. But he is no longer that easily manipulated boy—these days he’s earned a reputation with the ladies that lives up to the McKay last name. He agrees to escort her to the reunion with one stipulation; that Georgia proves she has left behind the goody-goody cheerleader of the past—by sharing his bed.

Their sexual chemistry flashes so bright, they barely notice that the reunion has come and gone, and now they’re tangled up in another dreaded “R” word—relationship. But if Tell wants to get the girl this go-around, he’ll have to come up with a whole new set of knots to tie up her heartstrings.

Warning: Contains a sweet talkin’ wild cowboy with a wagon load of crazy-hot sex fantasies and the mad bedroom skills to back up his claims.

This is not the first in the series, but the 13th. It’s James most popular series and made her a USA Today and NYTimes bestseller.

Rebecca Zanetti Fated Fated by Rebecca Zanetti. $1.

From Jacket Copy:

Marry Me

Cara Paulsen does not give up easily. A scientist and a single mother, she’s used to fighting for what she wants, keeping a cool head, and doing whatever it takes to protect her daughter Janie. But “whatever it takes” has never before included a shotgun wedding to a dangerous-looking stranger with an attitude problem. . .
Or Else

Sure, the mysterious Talen says that he’s there to protect Cara and Janie. He also says that he’s a three-hundred-year-old vampire. Of course, the way he touches her, Cara might actually believe he’s had that long to practice. . .

“Hot and fast from beginning to end.” –Kate Douglas

PW says “Zanetti bolsters this rather absurd setup with steamy scenes.” It’s a fated mate series.

Not really a comment on the above, and feel free to delete if this is against the rules, but there is a lovely book called LIGHT THE HIDDEN THINGS by Don McQuinn free (today only) in the Kindle store. It’s not marketed as romance but it is about a retired Marine trying to conquer PTSD and form a loving relationship again.

I love the format of your Daily Deals posts. I just bought Dragon Actually – I’ve been meaning to start this series forever and it looks like today’s the day!

@Ann F.: Me, too. I end up buying one or two books out of every post, though I haven’t had time to read a cereal box lately. Hi. My name is Mojo and I’m an ebook junkie.

@Ann F.: Thanks Ann. It does seem to work better and truly I don’t think we miss many deals. Toward the end of the month, I’m kind of flailing around to find new ones.

I’m from Canada and I don’t see these deals either. Is it a border thing, maybe? SAD! I wanted to buy the first two.:(

@Sweeney: I’m Canadian too, and when I go to the Sony website and click for the Canadian store, it’s still $1.

GA Aiken is also Shelly Laurenston. The second book in this series was published as “The Distressing Damsel” before it was renamed “About A Dragon”. [Some of us are still bitter since we weren’t warned before buying About A Dragon when we already owned Distressing Damsel.]

I’ve never read any Robyn Carr, but I decided to check out the $1 book on Amazon. I saw that they were also offering a bundle of the first four books in the series for a bit over $9. Most of the reviews were great, but a 1-star review I saw said there was just too much explicit sex. Yeah, you know I’ve already downloaded it.

I adore Aiken’s Dragon series, already have all the paperbacks. Unfortunately, Dragon Actually is 4.99 at BN. I’ve got the first generation Nook and I’m thinking it’s time to switch to the Kindle. Hate you, BN.

@CG: You can sideload the Sony epub on your Nook device.

@jane_l: I know, but I don’t have an account with Sony and I really dont feel like opening one. I’m all about one stop shopping and ease of access. If I have to sideload something I wont bother, unless it’s from the library. There are quite a few authors who have missed sales from me for precisely this reason. For all Amazon’s supposed evil, they seem to consistently stock the titles I’m interested in, not to mention the sales are pretty good. These are the main reasons why I’m thinking of switching to the Kindle.

Trashy dragon porn? Hooyah! If I didn’t already own 3 copies, I’d totally buy it based on that alone. :)

I already had 2/4 of the books and the Virgin River series never seemed that interesting to me so I decided to try Fated. I was never going to pay the regular price for the series since it sounded odd. I have to say on reading it, PW might have been too kind. Recognizing it is the first book, it felt like an everything and the kitchen sink sort. With my favorite annoying plot hook, the special child of destiny. Also, it had so many plot holes, with people randomly entering and exiting without us ever finding out their real purpose. I have to say thank you to Jane for putting the deal out there. I might have tried the series at full price and been annoyed.
