Bestselling author Sandra Kitt’s novel of interracial love and friendship
Born to a white mother and an African-American father, Dallas Oliver has always felt like an outsider. Life gets more complicated when her mother dies and she moves in with her father and stepmother. The one saving grace is Dallas’s unexpected friendship with a white girl named Valerie Holland. Decades later, they’re still best friends. Dallas is a journalist for a controversial magazine and Valerie is a single mother. But their bond will be tested when they fall in love with the same man.
Ex–Navy SEAL Alex Marco and Dallas both have histories shadowed by violence. But Alex is also haunted by his own tragedy. Narrated from the alternating perspectives of Dallas, Valerie, and Alex, Between Friends is a sensual, unforgettable story about friendship, secrets, and a love that transcends barriers.
You may want to consider buying at Kobo and using a coupon code as well. 50Dec is reportedly a multi use coupon that is working with these Open Road titles.
Authors to look for include Sandra Kitt’s newly digitized backlist, Philippa Carr, Patricia Gaffney, Amanda Scott, Andrea Kane, Nan Ryan, Suzanne Forster, and many others.
For mysteries there are the Peter Wimsey series by Dorothy L Sayers, William Tapply’s The Brady Coyne Mysteries, Susan Dunlap’s The Jill Smith Mysteries.
There are dozens of science fiction and fantasy titles. Jayne would recommend Barbara Hambly.
As for this book, Library Journal writes ” Intense, thoughtful, and sensual, this story of a biracial heroine, an illegitimate hero, and their respective best friends and families raises questions that are important, compelling, and occasionally uncomfortable and offers realistic resolutions that will leave readers both hopeful and satisfied.”
Consequences by Aleatha Romig. $ .99

Anthony Rawlings had a plan-to teach Claire Nichols to behave.
Claire Nichols had a plan-to survive!
In an unfamiliar bedroom within a luxurious mansion, Claire Nichols wakes to memories of a brutal abduction. All of her recollections have one common denominator, the man she just met-Anthony Rawlings. Unbeknownst to Claire, Anthony has had her in his sights for a long time. Every action has consequences-and his actions resulted in their chance meeting.
Facing incomprehensible circumstances, Claire must learn to survive as she comes to terms with her new reality-every aspect of her livelihood is now dependent upon the tall, dark-haired, dark-eyed tycoon. Anthony may appear to the world as a prosperous, benevolent, kind businessman, but in reality Claire learns he is also a menacing, controlling captor with very strict rules: do as your told, public failure is not an option, and don’t divulge private information. Failure to follow these rules and more, are met with serious consequences.
In an effort to earn her freedom, Claire learns her lessons well and before long, she unknowingly captivates her captor. Anthony/ Tony reluctantly becomes enthralled with Claire’s beauty, resilience and determination. Their interaction instigates strong emotions, including-fear, anger, love, and lust-as their journey flows into uncharted waters of intrigue and passion.
From the opening criminal abduction, through the twists and turns, to the unlikely romantic thrills, the suspense climaxes as Aleatha Romig utilizes vivid detail, allowing this novel to unfold like a movie.
Can you put the pieces of the puzzle together? Claire Nichols abduction wasn’t a random act-did she learn her lessons well enough? Will these unlikely lovers remain true-or will she learn the truth before it’s too late?
The series brings the couple to an eventual HEA which seems impossible given that the “hero” kidnaps the female protagonist and then proceeds to brutalize her. I almost think its better reading this as a non romance than a romance. Still it was very different.

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. $ 2.99.
From the Jacket Copy:
Widely acclaimed for his work completing Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time saga, Brandon Sanderson now begins a grand cycle of his own, one every bit as ambitious and immersive.
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter.
It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Men trade kingdoms for Shardblades. Wars were fought for them, and won by them.
One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where ten armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable.
Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by over-powering visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity.
Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar’s niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan’s motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war.
The result of over ten years of planning, writing, and world-building, The Way of Kings is but the opening movement of the Stormlight Archive, a bold masterpiece in the making.
Speak again the ancient oaths,
Life before death.
Strength before weakness.
Journey before Destination.
and return to men the Shards they once bore.
The Knights Radiant must stand again.
