Lucky Harbor Series Jill ShalvisLucky Harbor Series by Jill Shalvis. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Maddie Moore’s whole life needs a makeover.

In one fell swoop, Maddie loses her boyfriend (her decision) and her job (so not her decision). But rather than drowning her sorrows in bags of potato chips, Maddie leaves L.A. to claim the inheritance left by her free-spirited mother-a ramshackle inn nestled in the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington.

Starting over won’t be easy. Yet Maddie sees the potential for a new home and a new career-if only she can convince her two half-sisters to join her in the adventure. But convincing Tara and Chloe will be difficult because the inn needs a big makeover too.

The contractor Maddie hires is a tall, dark-haired hottie whose eyes-and mouth-are making it hard for her to remember that she’s sworn off men. Even harder will be Maddie’s struggles to overcome the past, though she’s about to discover that there’s no better place to call home than Lucky Harbor.

When I woke up this morning, I headed over to Barnes & Noble to see what deals were cooking. I always stop there first because Amazon almost always has a price match for a B&N deal. What should I see but six Lucky Harbor books at $1.99.

Here’s the reading order for the first six priced at $1.99 each. The Lucky Harbor series is a nice contemporary series featuring decent people and relatable problems. Hard not to like that.

Simply Irresistible (A Lucky Harbor Novel 1)
The Sweetest Thing (A Lucky Harbor Novel 2)
Head Over Heels (A Lucky Harbor Novel 3)
Lucky in Love (A Lucky Harbor Novel 4)
At Last (A Lucky Harbor Novel 5)
Forever and a Day (Lucky Harbor 6)

Also:

Under the Mistletoe (A Lucky Harbor Novella)
Heating Up the Kitchen: Recipes with Love from Lucky Harbor ($.99)

India Fan by Victoria HoltIndia Fan by Victoria Holt. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

With Over 100 Million Books Sold, Victoria Holt is the Queen of Gothic Romance.

Blackmail. Arson. Murder. Obsession.

Beautiful as its peacock feathers may be, the priceless fan hidden deep within the Framling mansion has a legacy of death and destruction. And Drusilla Delany has no idea she’s been marked by its curse…

But the fan’s dark past might prove less of a danger than Fabian Framling himself. Dark, brooding, and dominating, will he be the one to save her from the fan’s cruel fate…or cause her demise?

Beautiful Drusilla Delany had always been a sensible girl, the daughter of an impoverished vicar in Victorian England. But then she became infatuated with wealthy Fabian and Lavinia Framling–and inherited an extraordinary fan with a beautiful and fateful curse! A knock-out novel of mysticism and murder from the author of The Silk Vendetta.

It’s a New Adult! Really, read the PW review ” Lush and exotic, this is a luxuriously told story of a girl’s adventures into adulthood. At times, references are too casual, flippant, or modern for the time period, and the stock characters too predictable. But the story is well served by rich, sensual details and engrossing storylines.”

Heh. Anyway, the book takes place in New Delhi during the Sepoy rebellion. Sunita, did you read this?

Temptation in a Kilt by Victoria RobertsTemptation in a Kilt by Victoria Roberts. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

She’s On Her Way to Safety

It’s a sign of Lady Rosalia Armstrong’s desperation that she’s seeking refuge in a place as rugged and challenging as the Scottish Highlands. She doesn’t care about hardship and discomfort, if only she can become master of her own life. Laird Ciaran MacGregor, however, is completely beyond her control…

He Redefines Dangerous…

Ciaran MacGregor knows it’s perilous to get embroiled with a fiery Lowland lass, especially one as headstrong as Rosalia. Having made a rash promise to escort her all the way to Glengarry, now he’s stuck with her, even though she challenges his legendary prowess at every opportunity. When temptation reaches its peak, he’ll be ready to show her how he really is…on and off the battlefield.

PW says “While Roberts’s debut features appealing characters and an interesting background of ancient clan feuds and spurned lovers, the story itself is as wispy as cotton candy. Readers seeking a break from raunchier romances will appreciate the focus on the protagonists forming a real relationship over time. “

The Danger That Is Damion by Lisa Renee JonesThe Danger That Is Damion by Lisa Renee Jones. $ 2.99.

From the Jacket Copy:

Lethally passionate, wickedly dangerous…

Renegade warrior Damion Browne is a soldier of soldiers, an enforcer of the code of honor. With ruthless precision, he calculates risks as deliberately as he does his lover’s satisfaction. Now it’s up to him to defeat a new generation of female Super Soldiers, including the one woman perfectly programmed to be his downfall.

His enemy…or his soul mate?

Lara Martin has never felt powerful, until she’s brainwashed to destroy the one man who can help her find the answers she so desperately seeks. Alone and embroiled in lies, Lara must turn to Damion for the key to the truth …

I think this is the sequel to the Legend of Michael (such a great title). This book made one reader stay up too late to finish and she ended up oversleeping. I always think that is the mark of a good book.

I only hope that the female Super Soldier still is out slaying people instead of being domesticated by love.

I enjoyed the first three Lucky Harbor books, but didn’t stick with the series – too many books set in the same small town = too much for me. I think Jill Shalvis excels at writing likeable characters – which sounds like I’m damning her with faint praise, but it’s hard to find likeable MCs in romancelandia sometimes, especially the heroes.

Ha! I’m marathoning (mainlining?) The Vampire Diaries right now (the TV show, not the books), so when I first saw “The Danger that is Damion” I perked up! But alas…

Then again, even if it’s not about my favorite Evil Salvatore Brother, I still think it looks like it could be interesting/different.

Regarding the Victoria Roberts Temptation in a Kilt…
This was her debut novel and it was pretty good for a first novel
BUT keep reading the series. She get’s rolling. The second was better and the third
Wed To A Wild Highlander was GREAT if you like highland romances like I do. It’s my first love in romance and she’s hit her stride in her third book released TODAY! The plot is now complex and it’s not superficial “fluff”. She’s exercised her writing muscles and taking off.

    @Susan

I’ve had that happen on other books and I feel like I’m getting punished for being a big fan of an author and not wanting to wait.
