Warning: This book contains cussing, brawling, and unladylike behavior. Proceed with caution.

I’ve never read even one of these books and I have to confess that I’ve stopped buying box sets because I bought like, 20 or maybe even 30 and didn’t even read one except a Noelle Adams collection. :(

A man With No Heart

Gabe Bonner wants to be left alone, especially by the beautiful outcast who’s invaded his property. She has a ton of attitude, a talent for trouble, and a child who brings back bad memories. Yet Rachel’s feisty spirit might just be heaven-sent to save a tough, stubborn man.

Dare To Dream

Welcome to Salvation, North Carolina—where a man who’s forgotten what tenderness means meets a woman with nothing to lose. here two endearing lovers will set off on a funny, touching journey of the heart. . .to a place where dreams just might come true.

I have a complicated relationship with a number of SEP books. I loved them when I read them and then I look back and say, “holy crap those were some problematic issues.” As for Gabe Bonner’s book, I think this is the one where Rachel goes into the woods and throws shoes at Gabe? If so, yup, I ate that up.

I must confess Dream A Little Dream made me cry. Very angsty. Have in PB but may need to get as ebook (it has been awhile since I reread–again made cry–but I seem to remember wishing she could through the shoes at just about every person in town)

I’m with you about SEP books being problematic but still so readable and mostly enjoyable, too. DaLD is one of her darker ones but I ate it up, too.

I’m always drawn to the box set sales but am afraid I’m I’ll never read them and just waste storage space.

The Brazen covers are gross and they look cheap. I had never noticed it was MacMillan ! So should I spend my hard-earned dollar (!) and pre-order, Jane ? or wait for your review ? And you were so right: I totally enjoyed Joanna Wylde’s book (THANK YOU!).

Actually there are three Brazen releases coming out tomorrow–the third is Temporarily Yours by Diane Alberts. And there’s no need to preorder. According to their blog they’re offering the 99 cent price for the first couple weeks of most of their releases now.

This SEP book has one of my all time favorite scenes in a book. There is an intense discussion going on in a kitchen with Rachel, Gabe, Jane and Jane’s husband (I don’t remember his name but Jane and he had their own book, Nobody’s Baby but Mine) and during the conversation, they keep passing Jane’s baby from person to person as needed. At the end of the conversation, Rachel walks off in a huff without realizing that she is holding the baby. I have several sisters and I remember sitting with them on several occasions with whoever was the baby in the family at the time being held and passed around as one sister or another had to get up to do something. That scene just seemed so real.

I’ve stopped buying boxed sets, too, because most of the ones I’ve tried have been pretty bad — not even worth $.99. But I am looking for a new paranormal author, so I’m considering the Magic After Dark set. Anyone here familiar with any of the authors in the set?

  15. library addict
    Feb 02, 2014 @ 23:41:52

@AnAu: Thanks for the heads up on the new releases price. I’m going to wait to get the titles I want once Kobo drops the price. Some are already showing 99¢ there and at B&N but not the same titles – lol.

@Amy: I have read some of the books in the Magic After Dark set and they were decent enough that I went looking for other books in their series. But the ones I was looking for were not yet out. Seemed like a bad marketing idea to me. Still I found the book well worth the incredibly cheap price.
