Takhini Wolves, Book 3

Caroline Bradley is having one hell of a week. Her wolf lover has sniffed out his mate, making her an instant free agent. Not only that, Takhini territory has been overrun with aggressive bear-shifters electing a clan leader, and the wolf pack is feeling the effects-pushing her diplomatic skills to the limit.

Tyler Harrison is a grizzly on a mission. If he’s going to win the majority of the bears’ votes, he needs one final thing: a female companion. The only woman in town with influence over wolves, humans, and more bears than he’d like to admit, is Caroline.

Despite the sexual pull between them, though, Tyler’s not seeking a permanent relationship. And Caroline isn’t looking to be anyone else’s political pawn. But she should have remembered that when shifters are involved, changes happen in the blink of an eye.

Warning: Billionaire bear hero plus kick-ass human heroine equals a sexually volatile power struggle. Get ready for what might be the naughtiest game of tag that’s ever been played in the great outdoors.

There are 6 books in the Granite Lake Wolves series. These are light-hearted, happily-ever-afters.
There are four books in the award-nominated Takhini Wolves series, BLACK GOLD, SILVER MINE, (Rita Nominated) DIAMOND DUST, MOON SHINE
The Granite Lake Wolves books are all novella length. Takhini Wolves are novels.

There aren’t many critical reviews of the book so about all I can tell you is that the story involves bear and wolves shifters.

Per the form entry, the previous box set release by these authors sold 100,000 copies. This new box set features one additional other. (No cliffhangers or sexual triggers such as rape.) I can’t say that I’ve heard of any of these. I think a couple may be category authors at one time?

Deal is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Kobo, Google Play, iTunes.

Fighting Redemption by Kate McCarthyFighting Redemption by Kate McCarthy. $ .99 Apple | Amazon

From the Jacket Copy:

Ryan Kendall is broken. He understands pain. He knows the hand of violence and the ache of loss. He knows what it means to fail those who need you. Being broken doesn’t stop him wanting the one thing he can’t have; Finlay Tanner. Her smile is sweet and her future bright. She’s the girl he grew up with, the girl he loves, the girl he protects from the world, and from himself.

At nineteen, Ryan leaves to join the Australian Army. After years of training he becomes an elite SAS soldier and deploys to the Afghanistan war. His patrol undertakes the most dangerous missions a soldier can face. But no matter how far he runs, or how hard he fights, his need for Finlay won’t let go.

Returning home after six years, one look is all it takes to know he can’t live without her. But sometimes love isn’t enough to heal what hurts. Sometimes people like him can’t be fixed, and sometimes people like Finlay deserve more than what’s left.

This is a story about war and the cost of sacrifice. Where bonds are formed, and friendships found. Where those who are strong, fall hard. Where love is let go, heartache is born, and heroes are made. Where one man learns that the hardest fight of all, is the fight to save himself.

This book is recommended for 18+ due to adult language and themes.
Please note: K McCarthy is an Australian author and Australian spelling, language and slang has been used in this book.

I had intended to buy this when it first came out but then decided against it. Now it’s 99c. Fist pump. Interestingly enough some of the reviewers felt like this was a remake of a “Fighting for Redemption an autobiography by Mike Norton” because of the similarity in titles and plot lines although another reviewer noted that this type of storyline (emotional trauma triggered by the death of a close friend) is so commonplace in military romances, it seems trite.

Most of the critical reviews indicate that it’s a good read but not one that lived up to the 100 box tissue ratings it received. Going in with lowered expectations might result in a pleasurable experience.

If You Stay: The Beautifully Broken Series: Book 1 by Courtney ColeIf You Stay by Courtney Cole. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

For fans of Jessica Sorensen, J.A. Redmerski, and Abbi Glines…

Twenty-four-year-old Pax Tate is an asshole. Seriously. He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad boy with a tough attitude to match. His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with an intense guilt that he doesn’t understand. What he does know is that he and his dad were left alone, and they have never been close. Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the black void in his soul. He pretends that the emptiness isn’t there and this has always worked . . . until he meets Mila.

Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air that Pax has never known in his life. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her-but he quickly realizes that he’d better figure it out because he needs her to breathe. When the memories of his mother’s death resurface to haunt Pax, Mila is there to save him from his overwhelming guilt. Mila restores his broken heart, even as she evokes his powerful, sexual desires. Now for Pax to keep Mila, he needs to work on his issues-and stop being an asshole. But is that enough to make her stay?

This was one of those run away self published hits back in 2012. The author was picked up by Grand Central where she went on to publish at least two more books in the series before leaving to self publish her most recent title. The comparison offered up by the publisher is exactly right. If you like Jessica Sorensen, J.A. Redmerski, and Abbi Glines, I think this story about a reformed drug addict will appeal. The first 20-30% was well done according to Mandi at SmexyBooks but the second half when the hero was dealing with emotional issues, the drug problem kind of slid away and the opportunity to really explore his psyche was lost.

The Nook Free Friday is a box set of western historicals – Tin Stars and Trouble Makers by authors Patricia Rice, Adrienne deWolfe, Sharon Ihle and Patricia Hagan. Haven’t read any of them, but they’re free. Price matched by Amazon too.

I love Vivan Arend and really love her Takhini Shifters stories, but I wouldn’t recommend starting with Diamond Dust as the situation and world-building take place in the previous two books, Black Gold and Silver Mine (which are both some of my favourite books ever). 99 cents is a great price but a lot of what’s going on doesn’t make much sense without the backstory. Her Shifter books are usually in the $4-5 range.

Kobo also has its July contest up, contest.kobo.com, 10 days worth of trivia and each day gives you a new coupon from 10-75% off and they’re good until the end of the month. In fact, they work on a lot of Vivian Arend’s books!

I am a big fan of these monthly contests, I usually get at least one really good coupon out of them and some forums are really nice about sharing extras.

I actually didn’t have a problem starting the Arend series with Diamond Dust. There were things I had questions about, but for me it stood well enough on its own.

@Heather Willis: Aussies (and a lot of others) can’t win the big prizes, but many folks from all over enter anyway for the coupon codes which can be used almost anywhere (on coupon eligible books). The only place I know of where coupon codes might not work is the Japanese store.
