Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie JamesJust the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie JamesJust the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

From the New York Times bestselling Julie James comes this dazzling romance about a hunky heartthrob and the woman who refuses to let him capture her heart. For fans of Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Rachel Gibson.

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan. In the courtroom, she never lets the opposition see her sweat. In her personal life, she never lets any man rattle her—not even her cheating ex-fiancé. So when she’s assigned to coach People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for his next big legal drama, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob’s charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews.

Jason Andrews is used to having women fall at his feet. When Taylor Donovan gives him the cold shoulder, he’s thrown for a loop. She’s unlike any other woman he’s ever met: uninterested in the limelight, seemingly immune to his advances, and shockingly capable of saying no to him. She’s the perfect challenge. And the more she rejects him, the more he begins to realize she may just be his perfect match?

This is today’s Kindle Daily Deal and BN has price matched it. Not my favorite James book but definitely worth it at the 1.99 price.

I haven’t read this series but I have heard that Gin is pretty awesome in this series.

Thief's Magic by Trudi CanavanThief’s Magic (Millennium’s Rule) by Trudi Canavan. $ 2.99 Pre Order price

From the Jacket Copy:

In a world where an industrial revolution is powered by magic, Tyen, a student of archaeology, unearths a sentient book called Vella. Once a young sorcerer-bookbinder, Vella was transformed into a useful tool by one of the greatest sorcerers of history. Since then she has been collecting information, including a vital clue to the disaster Tyen’s world faces.

Elsewhere, in an land ruled by the priests, Rielle the dyer’s daughter has been taught that to use magic is to steal from the Angels. Yet she knows she has a talent for it, and that there is a corrupter in the city willing to teach her how to use it — should she dare to risk the Angels’ wrath.

But not everything is as Tyen and Rielle have been raised to believe. Not the nature of magic, nor the laws of their lands… and not even the people they trust.

PW explains this book as “Australian fantasy author Canavan (the Traitor Spy trilogy) introduces a restrictive magical culture to open the Millennium’s Rule trilogy. Tyen, scholar and ambitious archaeologist, uncovers an ancient magic tome, a font of potentially dangerous information, forged from the body of an unwilling woman named Vella. Rielle struggles against the strictures of polite society, where inborn magical gifts can too easily lead to arrest and assault, and where women are expected to submit to loveless arranged marriages.”

It’s a trilogy with a big cliffhanger, I think. PW says that the story doesn’t conclude, but just stop;s.

Hearts of the Anemoi Bundle Laura KayeHearts of the Anemoi Bundle by Laura Kaye. $ .99.

From the Jacket Copy:

North of Need

Called to life by Megan Snow’s tears, snow god Owen Winters appears unconscious on the widow’s doorstep in the midst of a raging blizzard. Owen finds unexpected solace in her company and unimagined pleasure in the warmth of her body, and vows to win her heart for a chance at humanity. Megan is drawn to Owen, but this Christmas miracle comes with an expiration—before the snow melts and the temperature rises, Megan must let go of her widow’s grief and learn to trust love again, or she’ll lose Owen forever.

West of Want

When Marcella Raines’ twin brother dies, she honors his request to be buried at sea, never expecting the violent storm that swamps her boat. Zephyros Martius is the Supreme God of the West Wind and Spring. Ella is drawn to the vulnerability Zeph hides beneath his otherworldly masculinity. She and Zeph struggle to let go of the past, defend their future, and embrace a love that can be trusted.

South of Surrender

Laney Summerlyn needs the organized routine of her life at Summerlyn Stables. But everything changes when a ferocious storm brings an impossible—and beautiful—creature crashing down from the heavens. Injured while fighting Eurus, Chrysander Notos, Supreme God of the South Wind and Summer, finds himself at the mercy of a mortal woman whose compassion and acceptance he can’t resist. As they surrender to the passion flaring between them, immortal enemies close in, forcing Chrys to choose between his brother and the only woman who’s ever loved the real him.

I haven’t read any of these. The one Laura Kaye book I finished was a novella and it had a good idea and steamy chemistry but it wasn’t long enough to feel fulfilling. That problem wouldn’t be replicated here given that these are three books.

Per Glittergirl, the book East of Ecstasy is also 99c.

Amazing Spiderman also includes “Amazing Fantasy” #15, which is Spidey’s actual first appearance (and the last issue for that book). If you’re looking to add the earliest Spidermans to your shelf, that’s a great price. The husband paid considerably more for his “Essentials” paperback of the same issues, which was printed in black & white, not color. (We’ve since subscribed to Marvel Unlimited, so now have digital access to a large portion of Marvel’s back catalog for a yearly price.)

Is it me or is the cover model for The Hearts of the Anemoi Bundle totally Matthew McConaughey?

Yay on the ARe 50% deal today (I think the buy 10 stories, get 1 story program also applies but I could be wrong)!! I’m buying a zillion books.

Spider’s Bite looks awesome. I love romances about assassins.

I’m a sucker for witty banter between leads and I like the Julie James I’ve read. I had high hopes for this one, but I despised it. I couldn’t get past that he was a big jerk who acted like a spoiled child and nothing much in the story changed my mind. I also didn’t like that subplot about the jealous up and coming actor dude either, it seemed trite and lame. If it were me, it would be worth paying more for one of her later (and better) books.

@Cynthia Sax: Yes that still applies. Note that it’s a rebate, so you pay full price for the books but get 50% back in “ebucks” to spend in the store. Also, it only applies to transactions which pay via PayPal or a credit card. If you buy a rebated book using ebucks there’s no rebate.

I bought 7 books yesterday and now there’s a free book code waiting for me. Yippee!

My two cents: skip Spider’s Bite. It was far, far too repetitive with a character stuck on the past that she keeps mentioning every few pages without actually saying anything substantive, gaming changing, interesting or even *new* since the last time she brought it up. Character motivation was almost completely nonexistent. Wasn’t worth the $8 I paid for it, I don’t think it’s worth it even at $2.

@Amanda: I read the blurbs of the future books because I wasn’t sure who the romantic interest was. It was a disappointment and I found it hard to get into the (little bit of) romance in Spider’s Bite because of it. I tend to read UF for the romance aspects though so people who just like UF might fare better than I did.

@Amanda: It doesn’t get any better. I made it through the first four books before I gave up. I got really tired of Gin’s navel gazing and “poor, poor, pitiful me” attitude.

I thought I’d posted here yesterday. I like the Elemental Assassin series. There definitely is some ‘navel gazing’ and quite a lot of repetetiveness, and the romance is pretty unsatisfying (close to enraging) in the first 3 or so books. So definitely don’t go into expecting romance. The first story arc completes in the 5th book and I haven’t read past that yet.

Yeah, I liked it – enough that I’ve continued to buy the books even though there were/are aspects that I HATED throughout the series.

@Sandra: Bummer. I wanted to like this series so much but stopped after the first for just this reason. Gin and the world building had lots of potential but the repetitive language and navel gazing put me off. Different books in the series go on sale frequently so it’s hard to resist but yours and other comments lead me to think I’m better off giving up. Too many other books to read.

Did anyone buy the Hearts of the Anemoi Bundle by Laura Kaye from and have problems with the file?
