Daily Deals: An unusual historical and three freebies

A Dangerous Invitation by Erica MonroeA Dangerous Invitation by Erica Monroe. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Torn from her life of privilege by her father’s death, Kate Morgan relies on her knowledge of finery to survive in one of London’s dark and depraved rookeries as a fence for stolen goods. The last man she ever expects, or wants, to see again is Daniel O’Reilly, the man who promised to love, honor and protect her, but who instead fled amidst accusations of murder.

One drunken night cost Daniel O’Reilly the woman he loved and the life he’d worked so hard to create. If he ever wants to reclaim that life—and Kate—he’ll not only have to prove he’s innocent of murder, but convince the pistol-wielding beauty to forgive his many sins.

With a killer on the loose, time is running out for them…

According to the author who sent me the deal alert (which I appreciate a lot!) this book is set in 1832 London and is a gritty romantic suspense. The three star review says that isn’t your usual regency romance and the heroine was the daughter of a shipping magnate who lost his business and the hero was her father’s assistant who was accused of murder and fled England to avoid incarceration. The reviewers loved Kate but some of them had issues with Daniel. Still, I’m buying it and it’s going to be my March historical read. (Remember I’m trying to read a historical a month.)

“I’D APOLOGIZE FOR KISSING YOU, BUT I’M NOT ALL THAT SORRY.”

Dancer Melanie Brooks had escaped small-town Oklahoma, giving up the country for Broadway’s bright lights. Yet after her mother’s funeral called her back, her own health issues forced her to stay. Now her tenant, too-hot-for-his-own-good Adam Benson, is giving her a reason to dance again. But has a killer set his sights on her, too?

Adam knows a little something about fresh starts. As for his beautiful neighbor, he doesn’t see a wheelchair—he sees a woman who understands. But as the heat grows between them, he can’t avoid the feeling that more than her big-city past haunts her—and that danger has been lurking, waiting to strike?.

If heart-racing romance and high-stakes suspense is what you’re after, look for four new titles every month from Harlequin Romantic Suspense!

Cassidy has written over 80 romances since 1988 and is the author of the infamously titled Pregnesia.

The Monroe cover disturbs me. That hero looks indecently young.

@Bamaclm and @Lada: I don’t find the characters too young but I admit that if it weren’t for the author telling me the book was a historical, I thought it might be something else too.

@Amber Peart: The review at Smart Bitches is the best, trust me. Google it, and be sure to read down into the comments for the author’s delightful response. I’m getting this book and reading it just because she’s so classy right there.

I read the medical romance. Great story and I got a little emotional reading the ending. It was free when I picked it up in late December, and was a great way to kick off reading in the new year.

I went ahead and picked up the historical for 99 cents.
