2940016326214_p0_v1_s260x420The Gentleman and the Rogue by Bonnie Dee. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Lad from the streets meets lord of the manor. Both men’s lives will be changed forever.

When Sir Alan Watleigh goes searching for sex, he never imagines the street rat he brings home for one last bit of pleasure in his darkest hour will be the man who hauls him back from the edge of the grave. Despite his harsh life in the slums of London, Jem is a bright, cheerful young man. He’s also witty, irreverent, glib, and makes Alan laugh–a rare occasion since war time trauma and the death of his family have made the man a ghost of his former self.

A single night of meaningless sex turns into an offer of permanent employment. Jem acts as Alan’s valet, but offers him so much more than polished boots and starched cravats. Just as the men are adjusting to their new living arrangement, news about a former soldier under his command sends Sir Watleigh and Jem on the road to save a child in danger.

The journey brings them closer together as they travel from lust toward love. They rescue the girl from the clutches of an insane surgeon, who is as interested in experimenting on the vulnerable human spirit as he is on physical bodies. Alan realizes his love for Jem when he nearly loses him, but is Alan’s love strong enough to risk society discovering the truth about him? And is he strong enough to finally accept his sexual nature?

The blurb says it is on sale until the 25th. The three star review says it is an above average erotic m/m story and that she enjoyed it. Pretty good three star rating!

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe: A Novel with Recipes by Jenny ColganMeet Me at the Cupcake Cafe: A Novel with Recipes by Jenny Colgan. $ 2.99

From the Jacket Copy:

Issy Randall can bake. No, Issy can create stunning, mouthwateringly divine cakes. After a childhood spent in her beloved Grampa Joe’s bakery, she has undoubtedly inherited his talent. She’s much better at baking than she is at filing, so when she’s laid off from her desk job, Issy decides to open her own little café. But she soon learns that her piece-of-cake plan will take all of her courage and confectionary talent to avert disaster.
Funny and sharp, Meet Me at the Cupcake Café is about how life might not always taste like you expect, but there’s always room for dessert!

One thing I’ve noticed is that if you talk about food in a book, you better have recipes or the readers will be sorely disappointed. This was published in 2013 and I admit I didn’t realize there were new chick lit books being published. Kirkus says its a funny novel about friendship, food and love. “Readers with an interest in baking will love this book. Those who can’t bake can skip the recipes and enjoy the humor.” Jayne gave a different Colgan book a B (

Wasn’t there another book with the heroine falling in love with a loan officer?

The Plus One Chronicles Boxed Set (The Complete Collection: The Proposition, Possession and Obsession) Jennifer LyonThe Plus One Chronicles Boxed Set by Jennifer Lyon. $ .99

From the Jacket Copy:

Don’t miss this bestselling, sexy and emotional trilogy in a boxed set!

A proposition brings billionaire ex-UFC Fighter Sloane Michaels and beautifully damaged Kat Thayne together in fiery passion, but will a dark and dangerous obsession tear them apart?

**This boxed set is intended for readers 18 and over due to sexual content.**

Rich, sexy and volatile, Sloane Michaels has a dark agenda that keeps his heart on ice. His extreme wealth gives him the control he craves and his skills as an ex UFC fighter the tools he’ll need to extract his ultimate revenge. But when the woman he never believed he’d see again crosses his path, Sloane is caught between the vengeance he needs and a sexual conquest he craves.

Kat Thayne has been in survival mode for six years, hiding behind the sweet creations for her bakery. But when a random carjacking brings her face-to-face with her darkest fears and hottest fantasy, Kat is forced out of hiding and offered a dangerously passionate proposition. One she knows she isn’t strong enough to refuse.

Savagely sexy billionaire Sloane Michaels ruthlessly controls his life and everything in it. Even his sex partners are carefully negotiated plus-one arrangements, including his latest, the fiery bakery owner, Kat Thayne. But Sloane’s control is challenged when his mentor becomes seriously ill, and Kat takes over more and more his heart. Sloane is in a desperate balancing act of trying to keep the woman he loves while attaining the vengeance he craves.

After surviving an attack six years ago, Kat Thayne escaped her fears in the protective world of her beloved bakery. Then Sloane Michaels storms into her life, making her feel beautiful, strong and sexy. Yet as Kat pushes her boundaries and uncovers a dangerous secret in her past, Sloane’s controlling side emerges. Worried that Sloane will possess her mind, body and soul, Kat fights to keep her hard won independence. But just as Sloane demands her complete surrender, she discovers he has a dark side that could destroy them both.

Book Three: OBSESSION:

In the explosive conclusion to The Plus One Chronicles Trilogy, obscenely rich, jaggedly handsome and still obsessed with love and vengeance, Sloane Michaels must face an impossible choice: lose the woman he loves or betray his twin sister’s memory.

Watching the man she adores destroy himself for revenge, Kat Thayne knows she should run and never look back. But running isn’t her way anymore. Kat has grown into a fierce fighter, and the man who helped her get there is the very man who needs her strength now. But as the sizzling passion and hard-won love bind Kat and Sloane even tighter together, old secrets and lies explode around them. Danger threatens. And Kat soon realizes that she’s risking more than her heart to be with Sloane…she’s risking her very life.

The reviews note that each “book” is fairly short so the boxed set reads like one book rather than three separate ones. At 99c that might be a attraction rather than a deterrent.

Two's A Couple, Three's The Law ((MFM Paranormal Romance)) by Eve LanglaisTwo’s A Couple, Three’s The Law by Eve Langlais. $ .99.

From the Jacket Copy:

Can one woman handle two dominant men intent on staking their claim?

Two’s a couple, three’s a ménage, not to mention the law. Welcome to an alternate world where the government gives tax breaks to women who choose to take on two or more men—and werewolves live amongst us.

Despite the laws encouraging polygamy, Chloe isn’t interested in a relationship with one man, let alone two. But all that changes when a werewolf client decides he wants her for more than just legal aid. He’s not alone though. Her nemesis in the courtroom, district attorney Anthony Vanderson, is also intent on seduction.

Caught between two men—naked and panting—she succumbs to passion, gets embroiled in a mystery and learns werewolves aren’t the only creatures living amongst humans.

Warning: This story contains adult subject matter and language that is probably not suitable for anyone.

The premise sounds kind of funny – there’s a society that gives tax breaks to polyamorous couples and bonus if they are werewolves. That would be married, filing jointly, right?

Cripes, your slip is showing, Dr. Frued. I’m guessing that “anyone” is supposed to be “everyone”, because otherwise, who would it be suitable for?

    @kaigou: ah ha ha ha.

Edited to add: that’s the warning included in the blurb.

Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe is a cute story. It reminded me a bit of a Maeve Binchy novel.

OK. Savagely sexy billionaire ex-UFC fighter. Really? So, I went to the Forbes list of billionaires, just to see what they look like as a group. I think savagely sexy and jaggedly handsome is definitely going to be an outlier there. Of the 1,426 billionaires in the world, only 29 are under 40. Of those 29, there actually are a few who are pretty interesting-looking, so perhaps it’s not QUITE as ludicrous as it sounds?

The Gentleman and the Rogue is a terrific m/m Regency historical. The characters are likable, the period feel is good, and there’s a good balance of emotion and story. It’s definitely worth getting at that price.

Oh, The Gentleman and the Rogue is one of my favorite m/m historicals! Too bad I already own it. I’ll have to find some friends to pass the deal on to.

Random cover design comment – I swear there must only be one stock photo shoot of two men kissing, because I’ve seen those two models on the cover of The Gentleman and The Rogue on A LOT of covers.

(I started bookmarking them at one point –,,, etc.)

*whistles innocently* I might’ve maybe possibly sorta grabbed the werewolf menage. (After reading the excerpt, natch, I’m not new at this!)

I grabbed and finished the werewolf one. It was entertaining but towards the end it felt like it kicked up stuff just for the purpose of having a sequel. And there were a few distracting mistakes, most noticeably confusing polygamy with polyandry. Unless it’s a new usage of the word to include multiple husbands, not just multiple wives?

I’m reading the m/m and I’m not enjoying it. The rescuing the child in danger part is grisly enough that I need to finish it for closure. But – both heroes are TSTL, Jem, the prostitute with a heart of gold, is a Gary Sue, and I don’t care about either of them – if I didn’t need closure, I’d DNF it.
