Sony Reader Giveaway at Dear Author
Today’s the day, Dear Author Readers. We are going to give one beautiful RED Sony Reader away to a random entry. Here’s how to win. Below is a set of questions that require you to go to Sony.com and read about the Sony Reader and maybe even watch a demo.
You have to provide the Answers and then give a random number, between 1 and 1000, to your entry. The entry with the most correct answers (a couple are hard) will win. In case of a tie or several correct entries, the random number will decide the winner. This contest is open to everyone, including International Readers, but the international reader will have to pay the difference in shipping beyond $10.00 USD (which is the general cost to ship this device in the US with insurance).
Note: If there are different answers based on the two different models, I’ll accept the answer for either model as correct.

Question No. 3: Sony Reader uses a certain technology that gives it’s device a paper like appearance. What is the name of that technology?
Question No. 4: Which Sony Reader (give the model number) comes with integrated light?

Question No. 6: What does DRM stand for?
Question No. 7: You can buy a book at Books on Board, Fictionwise or eHarlequin to read on the Sony Reader. What format should you buy for the Sony Reader if you purchase from one of those etailers?
Question No. 8: A mass market paperback weighs approximately 6 to 7 oz. How much does a Sony Reader weigh?
Question No. 9: A mass market paperback is approximately 4.33″ x 7.01″. How big is the screen size of the Sony Reader?
Question No. 10: Stacked three deep, an $80 Target bookshelf will hold 243 books. How many books can a Sony Reader hold (while there are two different models, Sony gives only one number consistently. That is the number I’m looking for.)?
Question No. 11: You can add additional memory to the Sony Reader. Assuming that a digital book is 500K, an additional 2GB media card costing approximately $12.00 will hold 4000 books. What are the types of memory cards that it will accept?
Question No. 12: How long can you read on the Sony Reader with just one charge cycle (from a fully charged device until it gives you a low battery reading)?
Question No. 13: Can you listen to music on your Sony Reader while reading a book?
Question No. 14: There are three retail locations that you can go to see a Sony Reader in real life. Name two.
Question No. 15: During the demo narrated by the Australian, if you Press No. 2, you get a listing of books by Title. What is the name of the romance title listed and the name of the author of that romance title?
Question No. 16: What is your random number?

@Ann Somerville: I already tried, but this also made the ad-blocker protest. It is a strange link that seems to be some kind of redirect thing – the main page is kqzyfj.com, which is some sort of online marketing company that apparently has very little to do with Sony.
However, upon closer inspection, I see that there is an url within the longer url (…), that leads me to a page with the aforementioned error message – so I guess this is the right one :)

I had difficulty with a couple of questions as well. I never did find that Australian. but I did my best. I guess it wouldn’t be much fun if it was too easy to find the answers. :) Great contest!

AAARRRGGGHHH….I had about half, had to leave, my daughter got on, I got it back and finished it…then it HAD LOGGED ME OUT, so I am back to #7 (the last time it had saved apparently).

Good Grief that was tough!
Good quiz and yes I learned a lot so I’m ready for my reader!!! Sony should be very proud of your marketing!! I hate reading the directions for something yet I have read all of the directions for the reader, so I am excited to get started!!!

Questions were harder than I thought. Would really like a Sony reader, but for the primary purpose of keeping flight approaches on it for flying @ $9.99/month. It would replace about 30 pounds of maps. Love to read, so it would be nice to be able to read while on the move also. Well, here’s hoping. Couldn’t find an “Austrailian” but found a foreign sounding guy.

I was able to open the link via Firefox and not Safari though it led me to the CNET video w/c was definitely done by an American. I had to do a search for the Australian dude video and eventually found it. Great demo. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m finding #10 a bit confusing as I have both specifications on the PRS 505 and the 700 and the number of books that a Sony reader holds in its internal memory for either machine were definitely different. I’ve done several searches also. Even the weight varies a little. The only consistent claim for both was #9 & 12, I think.

Brenna, right on Sony’s site, it gives the book count. You have to search for it though. It’s hard to find. But they’re all the same. It’s the add-on memory that makes the difference.

Well, I assumed that #10 was asking for how many books will the Sony Reader’s internal memory holds since it is built-in with the reader. In fact, the specs does state the specific number for each model. Since the external memory are add-ons and would depend on what size, I didn’t consider them. I understand #11 is to what type of additional memory cards will it hold.

If you read it literally, which is what I did, #10 is only talking about internal memory because of the “consistent number”. Then again, I can be too literal of a person sometimes :lol:

I had difficulties with the color answers too. I didn’t know if it was both the 700 and 505 models, or just the 505. So, I may have gotten #1 wrong. Bummer if I did, the more I read the more I wanted…

The books it holds was different for the different models. The newest model was higher than the older models. I put both numbers with an explanation.

Yup, that’s exactly what I mean. It’s there in the specifications w/c you can download or view from their website. Even the weight varies. As to the color, again, the 505 and the 700 have different colors too. So to be sure, I included all the info that I have with some explanations as you did.

The guy doing the demo (I agree, he was totally British, and very cute!) was indeed hard to find, but if you persevere, he’s there. The retailers were also confusing to track down…and the colors… But I must say, I did learn a lot about the Sony Reader, and I do so want one now! Thanks for having a contest.

My big problem with the website is that I’m becoming blind as a bat in my old age and have a lot of problems focusing (which would make it a good idea to win something I could change the fonts on, yes?). Only the website’s fonts are so small it’s all I can do to read it (at least the parts I CAN read), so it’s taking me forever. I don’t know if I can’t find things because they are hard to find, or are right in front of my nose in plain sight, but a small font. Sigh.
Oh well. I live in hope, and will keep plodding along. I think I can, I think I can…

If you use Internet Explorer, go to View on the IE Menu Bar, Text Size and just choose a larger size as your default font size.
If you use Firefox (my preferred browser) hold down the Ctrl key and hit the + (plus) key (you don’t have to use the shift key for this) it will make the font bigger. Too big? Hold down the Ctrl key and hit the – key. Smaller!

I’d hate to see you not be able to visit anymore because you can’t see the screen. I’ve gotten so this is the first blog/site I check every morning! Well, other than the one I mod on, and mine.
But there’s also a text resizer at the top right corner here, though I think it gives you only one larger size option and with the others, it gives you two or three. And the ones I posted are across sites, not site specific.

Where on earth are you finding the Aussie/Brit guy demo? I got the videos by Kate and the American guy, but I can’t find any other videos to save my life. I’m very confident in all my other answers because I’ve been drooling over this for a while and already knew a lot of them, so this is not good. maybe I’ll just have to sleep on it and try again tomorrow.

I may be a bit of a rebel here, but I kind of thought the point of the contest was that while browsing to find the answers, you are reading the information and thereby learning about the various aspects of this eReader—not just going straight to the site to get the answer. It’s the journey along the way that counts, not just the end result.

Jane, does this mean my entry will be disqualified? I spent about three hours looking for the demo on my own (in addition to the two hours I spent finding or confirming the answers for the rest of the questions), so believe me, I wasn’t trying to avoid making the best effort I could. I’d hate to have all that work go to waste because a question I meant as rhetorical was answered. (but I still think Brenna is awesome *hug*)
