REVIEW: Incubus by Raine Weaver

Dear Ms. Weaver:

IncubusAfter I had purchased, read, and thoroughly enjoyed Let’s Pretend, I purchased your backlist. Thank goodness it was easy to do so and the prices were right. The second book I read was Incubus. This is a short story or novella length. I’ll try to keep the review commesurate with the story length! As with Let’s Pretend, the sensuality level of this book is no different than a Blaze.

Incubus is a romance gothic. Serafina Fisher is stuck at her fiance’s uncle’s cabin while her fiance makes up an excuse for spending the night elsewhere. Sera acknowledges her relationship with Steve is over but remains at the cabin. It has a strange hold over her. When she sleeps, she dreams of an erotic stranger coming to her and making her passions burn. Despite the fact that she spends more and more of her time sleeping, she begins to become haggard. Her eyes and countenance show signs of extreme straing and lack of sleep. She hears whispers and rumors that there is something wrong at the cabin and even though she recognizes that the cabin may represent danger to her, she cannot leave it.

The story was atmospheric, dark, and the future of the heroine was uncertain. Is she going mad? Was she going to be sucked dry by the spirit visiting her in her sleep or was he going to be her savior? If she took a chance, would it mean the end of her life or the start of a glorious new one? The heroine’s choice remained a mystery until the very end. I loved this book and having read it close on the heels of Let’s Pretend, it cemented you as a new favorite author of mine. B+ for Incubus.

Best regards,

Jane

BWAAAAAAAAAAAA Jane I gotta say it’s my fave Raine story to date–followed closely by her story in Howl.

I’m with Cece, this is my fave Raine story. Although Red in HOWL is a close second. You’ll enjoy that one too, Jane!

Loved Howl, but haven’t had a chance to read this one yet. You notice, I said “yet”. I plan to read all of Raine’s books some day.
