August Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo)

Authors, have an August release? Post about it in the comments.   It’s helpful if you put in links to excerpts or where to buy the book. Please wait about an hour before reposting as many of these will go to the spam filer due to the number of links. We’ll fish them out.

The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:

  • The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of July would be an August   release)
  • You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting about your book paralyzes you .
  • No self published authors unless you write romance. No, I am not a POD hater, I am just thinking about the manageability of the thread.
  • Think about the readership. I.e., does your non fiction book about psoriasis really fit?
  • This one is more of a guideline than a rule, but be smart about your comment because if it is just a link to your website and the title of your book, I doubt you are going to get any interest.
  • DA reserves the right to delete the post if it promotes objectionable content (i.e., no daddy/daughter incest recommends are going to be allowed. Sorry.)

That’s it. Post away.

Painful Reflections, my first erotic novella with Cobblestone Press, will be released on August 21, 2009. You can read an excerpt on my forum.

Meg Garrett loses her husband, Kyle, on their honeymoon but returns every year to the place she last saw him. There she meets Todd, a man who sets her blood on fire, but how can she move on when she can still feel her husband? She then finds out Kyle is alive, and that Todd isn’t who she thought he was. Where has her husband been for the past four years, and why doesn’t he remember her? Meg must trust a man who has betrayed her to find out the truth behind the deception.

I have an August release! No Surrender (the 3rd book in my Devlin Group series) (aka Gallagher’s book) releases 8/25 from Samhain!

My haiku…let me show you it…

    Devlin Group returns
    Danger. Lust. Blowing shit up.
    Action. Adventure.

(Of course, all the details that don’t fit in a haiku, like the awesome mantitty cover, the blurb and chapter one can be found here!)

My newest release with Amber Quill Press, titled Letting In The Light. It’s a fun, sexy, sweet M/M contemporary.

When Rowan Lee arrived in small, liberal Provincetown, he heard tales of the eccentric, brilliant, possibly insane Finnegan Clark. A world-famous mystery writer, Finnegan's been to the top of the bestseller list more times than anyone can count. It's about the only place he goes, sequestered away in his mansion by the sea.

Enter Rowan. The free-spirited lovechild of aging hippies, Rowan believes all anyone needs is love, and when he makes a delivery to Finn's mansion and meets the man himself, it's infatuation at first sight. Not to mention lust. Never mind that Finn's twice his age and snarls at him more than he speaks to him.

All Rowan wants is to make the world a better place, one person at a time, but all Finn wants is to be left alone. Sparks fly, and if Rowan can't break Finn's walls down, he'll burn them down…one sizzling encounter at a time…

Oh…. I’ve got an August release. Sadly, I can’t be as promo-clever as Shannon, so no haiku from me. :OP

It’s a reissue of the Pocket/EC anthologies and my story is GOOD GIRLS DON’T. Excerpt here.

My August release is THE VISCOUNT’S KISS from Harlequin Historical, available at eHarlequin and Amazon. At my website you’ll also find an excerpt and “web extras.”

It’s a Regency-set historical, and a sequel to A LOVER’S KISS,. I always write all my books to “stand alone,” though, so you won’t feel lost if you haven’t read A LOVER’S KISS. If you have, Drury makes another appearance in his friend’s story.

What’s it about? Here’s the back cover copy:

    THE VISCOUNT AND THE RUNAWAY…

Lord Bromwell is used to breaking the Ton’s rules, but even he is shocked when he meets the beautiful but guarded “Lady Eleanor Springford” and they share a soul-searing kiss!

Bromwell has a strong sense of duty and when he realizes she’s fleeing a desperate situation, the only honorable thing he can do is offer her refuge at his country estate.

Except he has no idea Eleanor is really plain Nell Springley, an impoverished lady’s companion on the run, and their fledgling relationship is a scandal-in-the-making….

Oh, man, Shannon sets the bar high. Always hated haiku in school, but I gave it a shot:

    Black CATs: Not feline
    They’re sexy FBI guys
    Stopping bad killers!

The 2nd book in my Black CATs trilogy comes out tomorrow. PITCH BLACK is about a reclusive Internet expert who gets drawn into the investigation of a killer who’s trying to “thin out” the gene pool by luring his victims with the latest e-mail scams.

4 1/2 from RT: “Elegantly woven plots, filled with action and psychological drama, make this dynamic series mesmerizing.”

Anyone scared off by the rumors of violence in FADE TO BLACK, please do consider giving this one a try. It’s psychological scary, not bloody scary, and has a strong romance (IMHO.)

    Thanks Jane!

Thanks for the opportunity to share my newest release! Especially since my August release is my very first NY book. I’m still squeeing!

It’s called Take ME from Kensington Aphrodisia and is available at all major bookstores and online like at Amazon.

The blurb is below, and here’s a link to excerpt and reviews.

After years as a slave to the pleasures of the powerful, Talia knows how to make a man mad with lust. But her pleasure counts for nothing–until a handsome, ruthless stranger appears. Ryder dares to look at her… to touch her… to awake in her a desire she’s never imagined. When he kidnaps her to learn her secrets, Talia vows not to let her passion take control. But soon she discovers that her captor’s intense gaze and searching hands can perform their own kind of interrogation, a sweet torture she finds impossible to resist…

My third title with Samhain releases in print this week. Bound by Steel, a f/f/m poly fantasy erotic romance, is the sequel to my first book, Crossing Swords, but can stand alone.

In keeping with Shannon’s haiku theme, here goes:

    Help! What do I do?
    Wife’s hot for our housekeeper!
    What the hell–I’m in.

A night of brutality destroyed her innocence…can the love of two people heal her wounded spirit?

    “I've been thinking about Kaela…”

There they are-’the words that lead Gil to suspect his wife Lianon is falling in love with Kaela, the beautiful, traumatized young woman they rescued from certain death six months ago. Gil has no idea how to compete with a woman for his wife's affections, and part of him ceases to care as Kaela begins to work her way under his skin.

Kaela's sweet innocence fills a chasm in Lianon's soul she hadn't even realized was there. As she gently helps Kaela rebuild her shattered confidence, Lianon begins to believe healing the young woman's wounded spirit could be the key to wholeness for all three of them. If Gil agrees to follow her lead and help Kaela discover her own feminine power.

But even as they all succumb to their growing desire, Gil and Lianon are drawn against their will back into the intrigues and vendettas of Belthalas' elite. With Lianon's life at stake, Gil must weave a dangerous path between one adversary's ambition and another's lust for vengeance.

Success will save Lianon…but could cost them Kaela.

    Product Warnings:
This title includes explicit sex, including f/f, m/m, m/f/f, anal sex; bad language; questionable politics; violence; stringy, overcooked lamb; a dog with a major drool problem; and one seriously well-deserved comeuppance.

You can read some review snippets and author quotes here, and I have a steamy excerpt posted here.

My first young adult novel, RAMPANT, is coming out at the end of the month (Aug 25).

Apparently the haiku thing has been done. How about a limerick?

    A book about man-eating unicorns,
They’ve got sharp fangs and venomous horns,
    It’s a whole new mythology,
    With some feminism and ecology,
And romance for my kickass heroine.

    Publisher’s Weekly described it thusly:
“With an atmospheric setting, personable ensemble cast and some reasoned discussions about virginity, this gripping page-turner evokes the same grrl-power spirit as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, packed with action, mystery and a complex and intriguing mythology.”

You can read more about the Near-East and Asian mythology that informs my take on killer unicorns here. It’s also got my favorite cover I’ve ever had.

And today there a new “excerptlet” up on my blog.

Oh I love the limerick! I’m totally stealing that idea. My first novel for Harlequin Presents, SPANISH MAGNATE, RED-HOT REVENGE, is available now!

There once was an ex-bullfighter named Alejandro
Who was feeling bad and on the down low
So he came up with a plan
To put the heroine's company in the can
But he forgot that in a Presents he'd end up married, kids in tow.

Want to know more? You can read the first chapter in its entirety here. Harlequin Presents are emotional, intense reads that deliver sizzling passion and glamorous settings.

My first novella (M/F erotic) is coming out from Samhain TOMORROW! (Gulp!)

Oh to be awesome like Shannon, lol.

    Genre: Contemporary Romance, Red Hots!
    ISBN: 978-1-60504-666-2
    Length: Category
    Price: 4.50
    Publication Date: August 4, 2009
    Cover art by Scott Carpenter

Nothing twists you up quite like love…

When she interrupts what looks like a tryst in her fiancé's office, former heiress Krista James has only one thought: “It's over!” True, they both signed a marriage contract that didn't include a love clause. But she'll be damned if she gives the two-timer the satisfaction of knowing she gave up her heart along with her hand.

How to say goodbye to a man who makes her forget her own name in bed, and all her principles everywhere else? Simple. Run.

CPA-on-the-rise David Ellison thinks everything is perfect. Perfectly planned, perfectly ordered, perfectly moving forward. Until he arrives late-’again-’for a lunch date. Suddenly he has a broken engagement, a guilty receptionist and a missing fiancée.

Tracking her down is easy. She's traded their honeymoon tickets for a luxury holiday for one. Reasoning with her? Impossible. Especially since they always seem to end up in bed, in the shower, on the floor…everywhere but at an understanding.

David didn't follow his woman all the way to Tahiti to return home empty-handed. To get her back, he's even prepared to empty his heart of all his secrets.

Question is…is he prepared for hers?

Warning: Emotionally repressed, sexually gifted accountant on the loose in Tahiti, intent on seducing his lady back into his life and completely redefining the phrase “awesome lei”. Mai Tais and fresh ice recommended to counter the extreme sexual heat.

Should also add that I have a Twitter/Blog contest going through tomorrow too– http://www.deetenorio.com/Blog (Grand prize is a $20 Gift Card from Borders, a print of “Kiss Me Again” and a keylight. Might be worth a shot!)

Naomi’s and my Robin Hood novel Heart of a Forest is available from Ellora’s Cave.

    Blurb:
In 1199, King Richard the Lion-Hearted lay dying in France. He commanded his lover, Sir David of Doncaster, to protect his small son by any means necessary.

Marion Fitzroy, princess of the blood on the wrong side of the blankets, now lives a constrained life in Nottingham castle, dreaming of her childhood betrothed, the son of the Earl of Locksley. As the Barons’ War rages around her uncle King John, her dispossessed fiancé -’ now called Robin Hood -’ and his merry irregulars make life miserable for Phillip, the sheriff of Nottingham…and fires Marion’s blood.

Robin, for his part, is about to learn the secret that Marion guards with her life. Thwarting Phillip’s gambits for Marion’s hand, a doubled price on his head, even shooting for an arrow of pure gold all pale next to the pleasures to be had under Marion’s skirts, deep in the heart of Sherwood Forest.

We have our first Amber Quill release, Curse of the Pharaoh’s Manicurists, coming August 30 in e-book.

My latest (and never before released) BOBBIE FAYE adventure will be out Tuesday, the 4th.

WHEN A MAN LOVES A WEAPON:

Living in her trailer was great for a time. But now Bobbie Faye’s officially engaged to, and has purchased a home with, the hottest FBI agent on the beat: Trevor Cormier. Even though she has no idea what he really does on the job, Bobbie Faye has never been happier… until Trevor gets called away on an urgent assignment and leaves her in the care of bodyguard-slash-babysitter, Riles.

As it turns out, Bobbie Faye could use a little extra security. The man she helped put behind bars, the murderous Sean MacGreggor, has escaped from prison… and is dead-set on revenge. With still no word from Trevor-’who was only supposed to be gone for three days-’Bobbie Faye finds herself reluctantly turning to her detective ex-boyfriend Cam for help. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect Bobbie Faye… so long as Trevor stays out of the picture. For good.

My urban fantasy STRIPPED will be released tomorrow by Samhain Publishing. Since I suck at limericks and haikus, I’ll just shoot straight from the hip with a blurb.

Someone wants their perfect weapon back, only she's not coming quietly.

Alexa Wells wants her life back. She's just not sure what that life was. The memories inside her head-’a stripper's-’aren't hers, and before she humiliates herself onstage one more time, she sets out to collect the scattered pieces of her mind. The trail leads to Boston, charges of identity theft and murder, and the real bombshell: a forgotten werewolf lover who insists she's a werewolf hybrid.

Matt York doesn't care that she looks at him like he's been smoking crack between court cases. Now that he has her back he's not about to let her go it alone, even if she can easily kick ass and take names all by herself. Amnesia only scratches the surface of her problems, and like it or not, she's stuck with him.

She's also stuck with Robert Gamboldt, a venture capitalist who's not above murdering his way to the top. He's not about to lose his prize possession without playing dirty. It's a simple enough offer. Be his personal assassin, or go to jail.

With options like that, it's enough to make a hybrid go full-blood.

Beyond the Rain hits the bookshelves today from Berkley Sensation!

    Here’s the blurb.

In a universe torn apart by civil war, a warrior and a slave must fight for their freedom, for their lives, and for a love that may destroy them both…

After five years behind enemy lines, Captain Cyani is ready to retire to her homeworld of Azra as one of the Elite -’ the celibate warrior sisterhood that rules the planet. But first she must complete one final mission to rescue her fellow Union soldiers. The last thing she expects to find is a prisoner, chained and beaten -’ but radiating feral power and an unbroken spirit…

Soren is a Byralen, an enigmatic people who possess a unique hormone that they use to bond with their mates -’ and that is sold as a sexual narcotic in the shadow trade. For years, he has endured torture at the hands of his captors as they leeched his very essence. The last thing he expects is to be freed from slavery by a beautiful warrior woman with radiant blue eyes.

Driven by her rigid sense of honor, Cyani frees Soren even though her life hinges upon the success of her mission. But after so many years in bondage, his hormones are so unbalanced that he will die if he does not bond with a woman. Can the lovely but distant warrior be the woman he needs to survive, or will the forbidden bond destroy them?

To celebrate the release, I’m giving away a copy a day on The Butterfly Blog. (Aug 1-8) I’ll have posts all during release week giving some insight into the characters and worlds I’ve created in this dark and sexy space opera. Also check back at my website for more links to guest blogs where you can win a free copy of the release.

Chosen One, a SF erotic romance is out with Ellora’s Cave 18 August

A wickedly delicious dessert. A dark and mysterious man. A woman who can resist neither…

One of many trained tasters to the sovereign, Ceta Lars doesn't want to be chosen. Compounding Ceta's fear of the unknown is her attraction to Iason, the sovereign's paladin. For years, her glimpses of his dark perfection have tantalized her, stolen into her dreams, filled her thoughts with wild, erotic fantasies. Except he's the one man she can't have.

The sovereign's sentient female ship has other ideas. Her hungers rule and she wants Ceta and Iason. Together. One taste of the creamy ambrosia of her creation, and her two reluctant lovers will come together in a fire of scorching, orgasmic lust and passion that neither can deny-’that could destroy them both.

    There’s an excerpt here

And sorry, no poetry of any kind here. It would be cruel and unusual punishment, lol

My print book, Puma, was released yesterday. It’s a cat shifter romance. From the blurb:

Callie, a cat-shifter, is a loner by virtue of the puma that lives inside her. After a job gone bad, her very human need for contact sends her in search of the only family she has. Callie finds her foster sister in a disturbing living arrangement.

This was my first cat shifter book, and I had fun writing a non-pack animal-’even if I love my werewolves.

My first book, “The Notorious Bridegroom” is out this August. It is a Georgian-set spy story. For the links to purchase online and read an excerpt, please go to my website: http://www.kitdonner.com.

    Back blurb:
In the bedroom of a spy …

Ever since the horrible day her brother was accused of treason, Patience Mandeley hasn't recognized her own behavior. Under normal circumstances she would never be disguised as a maid, skulking around a earl's estate for secrets she isn't meant to find. But now the situation is desperate, and Patience will do whatever it takes to spare her beloved brother the noose, even if it means finding the true spy herself.

To do that, she'll have to gain access to the estate of Lord Londringham, the most desired bachelor in all of England-’without him knowing who she really is. But even in her maid's uniform, she can't miss the looks of unsuppressed desire she receives from her employer, and she finds to her dismay that the attraction is quite mutual. Though she knows she must ignore her feelings for this dark-haired rogue to save her family and escape ruin, his close proximity is making all reason impossible…and Patience may find that the real traitor is her own body…

It has plenty of humor, heat, and heart. Hope you enjoy!
