A strong beginning plus a strong ending almost eclipses a somewhat muddled middle of this romantic adventure. Dear Ms. Archer: I am pleasantly pleased with your debut novel. The setting isn’t Regency (though it is English), the heroine is intelligent and thoughtful, the hero is honorable and hardworking.
