Can a guilty conscience keep wounds from healing?

Fine arts major, Candace Parker, grew up with a mother who thinks image is everything, and her daughter’s perfection will never be good enough. About to graduate college and pursue her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina, Candace decides it’s time to let go and have a little fun. But fun is short-lived when a brutal attack leaves her completely shattered.

The memories that consume and torment Candace are starting to destroy her when she meets Ryan Campbell, a successful bar owner. He feels instantly connected and tries to show her that hope is worth fighting for. But is Ryan harboring his own demons? As walls slowly begin to chip away, the secrets that are held within start to become painful burdens.

At what point do secrets become lies?

(17+) This book contains mature subject matter that is not suitable for those under the age of 17.

I think I featured this before because that’s how Jennie picked it up. She gave the book a B+ and now the price has dropped to 99c.

I thought the book did a good job of setting the sense of place (Seattle) and of the experience of a college student about to graduate. I appreciated that, as I’ve found that a lot of the YA/NA books I’ve read don’t do that, and school is treated as an afterthought rather than the big part of the characters’ lives it would necessarily be.

Fading follows the pattern I’ve noticed with NA books of focusing on characters who undergo or have undergone a lot of trauma, but it worked much better for me than about 90% of the previous NA books I’ve read, due to strong writing and characterization. I look forward to further works from this author, and my grade is a B+.

Run the Risk by Lori FosterRun the Risk by Lori Foster. $ 1.99

From the Jacket Copy:

When Detective Logan Riske goes undercover to find Pepper Yates, a potential link to his best friend’s unsolved murder, he vows to gain her cooperation by any means necessary. But the elusive beauty is more suspicious—and in far more danger—than he expected. And the last thing Logan needs is to start caring for her?.

Pepper has spent years dodging the corrupt club owner who will stop at nothing to keep her silenced. She can trust no one, not even the handsome new “construction worker” who’s moved in next door. The heat between them is undeniable. But will surrendering to passion bring her the safety she so desires—or will her feelings for Logan draw them both into a killer’s crosshairs?

From this review, read the book for the second half, “The novel spins on a knife-edge at the halfway point when a sting goes down and EVERYTHING changes. The first half had been so very slow, so pedestrian, almost like walking uphill through treacle and suddenly everything and everyone changes and the story accelerates faster than a Porsche. Pepper goes from a dowdy doormat to super-hot, badass femme-fatale and has a total personality transplant. Rowdy goes from controlling, sniping, bullying older brother to a mega-protective alpha hero. Logan, who I had disliked intensely in the first half, starts to exhibit all the expected hallmarks of a Lori Foster hero – he’s protective, alpha, growly, loving, caring – he kind of morphs into Dare.”

The Replacement Guitarist Lori TolandThe Replacement Guitarist by Lori Toland. $ .99 at AMZN | iBookstore | ARE.

From the Jacket Copy:

Blaze Shinozuka has two goals: get a job as a guitarist and lose his virginity. At an audition for a famous pop star, he draws the attention of celebrity manager Jason Stockton—and their instant attraction sends his world careening off its axis just as he is thrust into the gritty world of rock ‘n’ roll.

Straight-laced music manager Jason Stockton is always professional and never dips his pen in the company ink. But there is something about Blaze that leaves him wanting what he shouldn’t. The guitarist’s exotic beauty and compelling innocence is a temptation Jason can’t resist.

After one lie in the national media pushes them apart, Blaze must decide whether he will trust Jason, a man he shouldn’t touch, let alone love. The cutthroat, jealous world of rock ‘n’ roll, has chewed up and spit out the toughest musicians, and Blaze vows he will be the last man standing, even after the music stops.

This gay romance contains very frequent love scenes, drug use and a very angry pop star dead set on coming between two men who will stop at nothing to be together.

Word Count: 58000

This book was previously released and has been edited and revised for this 2nd edition. The Replacement Guitarist will be on sale for 99c the whole month of September.

Author emailed me this deal which I appreciate because I know there are a lot of m/m readers and I don’t see a lot of those deals floating around. Love the cover. No idea whether the book is any good.

“You may think I’m joking, but look around you—if you know someone who legitimately loves these books, who gets the funny squirmies while reading them, who won’t shut the fuck up about Charlie Hunnam, this person has never had good sex.”

This is actually been disproven by at least one scientific study According to a scientific study conducted by Harold Leitenberg of The Journal of Sex Research and Psychological Bulletin, women who read romance or erotic novels have 74% more sex with their partners than those who don’t.

This is because women fantasize more frequently, and have more intense and realistic fantasies, when they read suggestive content. The report states that women not only have more sex, but are having better sex by engaging in more playful, and a wider variety of erotic activities. In fact, according to The Fertility Advocate, the use of reading to boost sexual desire is called Bibliotherapy and is recommended by therapists to encourage women to get their groove on in the bedroom.
