Since I recently got an ereader and am on a budget, this was a wonderful boon and I thank you so very much. I don’t know how it works for fictionwise but it worked quite nicely for me!

Drawback is that titles that slide into the eBookwise don’t qualify for micropay. Back to the format wars.

@Nadia Lee I was twittering about the cost of those Evanovich books last night, because they’re only $7 on Amazon. Also, I noticed that Fictionwise was missing three Evanovich and three Grafton titles, right in the middle of each series. That’s kind of odd.

As for the cost of the promotion, that’s on Fictionwise, not the publisher.

ETA: Cost of the promotion is on Fictionwise unless, I should have said, they’ve worked out some sort of deal with the publisher, like Amazon does for giving away free books, but generally that’s not an author’s entire list of books, so these types of promotions are usually run by the retailer.

@Miki S: They probably make money because people w/ insufficient micropay $ must buy something to charge it up. Also some people may buy something else along with the promotional titles.

Also I don’t know if it’s Fictionwise that eats the cost of the promotion. IIRC I think it’s the publisher, although I assume it depends. (Obviously the big publishers have more leverage, so get better terms than the smaller publishers.)

BTW — did anyone notice that the 1st three titles from Evanovich’s Plum series are over $20/each?! *shocked*

I can never figure out if Fictionwise does this by accident…how can they make any money??

One thing for people who may dash over, there appears to be one Evanovich and one Grafton book that is set up as credit card only. If you keep those out of your cart, the books will allow you to use Micropay. If you put one in the cart, ALL the books will change to requiring a credit card. I didn’t notice if there were any Leigh’s.

Wouldn’t mind purchasing the Janet Evanovich books but once again most have geographical restrictions and not available for purchase to buyers outside of Canada and USA

Since most of the Grafton titles carry the inflated list that a lot of Macmillan titles have ($14-$15 for titles that are $7-$8 in paper) this is probably the best way to get them I guess.
