Soul mate tropes drive me nuts for the exact reasons you review above - you don't really see them falling in love. They are soul mates - so they are automatically in love. I know there's likely some people who could say they've read soul mates where the couples actually DO fall in love but every one I've read, the only reason for the characters to be in love is because they are supposed to be. The other funny thing is that so many other cliches' in the paranormal genre seem to be present in this one (beside the soul mate).
