I just read this. I had to read it slowly, putting it down a lot, because it was almost too intense for me. Specially Gabriel’s past. I had doubts at the beginning on how Gabriel could be a credible hero — he seemed almost too damaged. But by the end I was rooting for them.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author — I am going to try her other books now.

The mystery of Gabriel's past, however, was fascinating and horrifying.

I agree, I thought he was one of the most horrifyingly tortured heroes I’ve read. Always love it when an author does something totally unexpected…

The rule in gothics was that the pleasant, well spoken, blond guy was the villain and the sullen, stalkerish, dark one was the hero. Of course, the real HEA in most gothics was between the heroine and the house– that is, unless the house goes up in some grand conflagration taking the villainous servants with it.

Eve Silver writes wonderful books, I was so sad when Shomi shut down and I couldn’t get my hand on the third book in her series. this looks yummy!
