I've read all but a handful of Balogh's titles and I cannot think of one with this premise. Would you share titles? I'm really curious because I cannot think of one myself!

Despite the mixed review, the premise of Wicked Little Game is just too different to pass up. I like the idea of a heroine who finds love with a good guy after being cheated on and used by her first hubby. I agree with a previous poster that it wouldn't be so bad if she had had affairs considering her first hubby's treatment of her though. And really, who can pass up a book with a long suffering hero?

Great review! Although, Wicked Little Game sounds like a rehashing of a Mary Balogh book (she's written this exact premise, with these exact same character types, several times).

Admittedly, too, I am very impatient with self-righteous, martyr barbie heroines, so I think I'll give this book a pass.

Also,
Brinsley might sleep around but she did not.

I have to admit, I am so tired of this trope. With the bad husband, and the stoic (yet oh-so faithful) wife, and would it really be so bad if the heroine had an affair? I mean, if he's a cheating, semi-abusive scumbag, and divorce is out of the question, what's wrong with the heroine discreetly looking for happiness and companionship elsewhere? Instead of crawling up on a cross? It'd be something different, at least. ;)

@Moth: It had shades of it, but the dynamic is totally different. I.e., Vane didn't have to convince Sarah that he was a good guy. He was clearly a good guy. She just had a host of other issues she had to deal with.

This sounds a bit like Carolyn Jewell's Scandal.

@Janine I actually thought you might like this book because you appreciate the internal exposition of a character more than I.
