This one hit me hard too. I thought about it for weeks. There’s no way I could read it again. I also gave it a B (4 stars).

I think what bothered me most was that I honestly didn’t see a future for these two men.

The author’s writing is great though.

This book sounds gritty…and I am going to hunt it down tonight!

It sounds like a version of what they now call “battered women’s syndrome.” Previous to that being allowable as a valid partial defense, women were often convicted for life or near to it under first or second degree murder. Now some women are having sentences commuted upon gubernatorial review of their cases. I don’t know how realistically the legal process is portrayed in the book, but I do think it’s realistic that a male defendant would be given much less jail time than a woman who had done the same thing, at least based on RL cases.
