TWO historical comments. The marriage of Mary to Charles Brandon was NOT approved by Henry:he rusticated them. I took a picture in 1999, when I toured Suffolk chiefly to document and look at hammer-beam roofs and Lavenham, of the wall plaque above the grave of Mary in St. Mary's in Ipswich. I wish to point out to you that the English were ALWAYS terrified of ANY alliance between France and Scotland, for fear of INVASION from the north:and there were times when a little bit of it DID happen. So the discussion of widowed Margaret marrying Louis XII is UTTER BULSHIT and would NEVER have ocurred.

Catherine, I love to learn knew things about history as well but for me, sometimes it's how well the author incorporates those facts which bugs me. I admit, I'm picky that way.

And yes, it's a first person narration. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.

This book sounds great. I'm going to have to go pick it up. I don't think the details about the cards and the candles that Jane Popyncourt talked about will bother me like it bothered you. When I don't know much about a time period (which I don't about this one) I'm grateful for any detail, whether it be large or small. I just want to feel like I'm immersed in the time. Here's hoping that this story will do it for me.

*One thing though... Is this in first person? You mentioned it was written as memoirs so I was wondering if it was or not.
